Last December, the high-performance Mercedes-AMG division provided a glimpse at its upcoming ultra-high-performance SUV that would sit at the top of the food chain.
This month, Mercedes-AMG has also started winter tests somewhere in Europe, and our spy photographer partners have already caught it looking ready for great achievements. The rumor mill also believes the upcoming 2027 Mercedes-AMG high-performance SUV is based on the carmaker’s AMG.EA architecture, meaning it will sip only electrons and go head-to-head with the Tesla Model X Plaid when it arrives on the market.
Those are some crazy assumptions, but the rumor mill rarely misses the mark these days anymore. No worries, the members of the imaginative guild of digital car content creators dwelling across the parallel universes of vehicular CGI are also ready to help them envision all these wild guesses. For example, Andrei Avarvarii, the virtual artist behind Avarvarii Automotive Artworks (aka avarvarii on social media), has taken a good, extended look at Mercedes-AMG’s plans and now showcases a new EV, too.
It’s not the ultra-high-performance SUV, though. This time around, the pixel master has focused on Mercedes-AMG’s potential new electric sedan, a model with over 1,000 horsepower that could also bring the fight to the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Tesla Model S Plaid without a second thought. In his opinion, the sporty German automaker is preparing yet another dedicated AMG model – a high-performance electric sedan, which is actually set to replace the current Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe.
He accompanies the claims with new illustrations, which are up to 50% accurate at the moment based on his available information. In fact, the renderings are based on heavily camouflaged prototypes that were photographed by the illustrious Wilco Blok spy photographer, so at least we have an early glimpse of what’s coming in real life, too.
As per the latest rumors, the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe will use the fresh AMG.EA platform, featuring a slim battery pack to improve cabin space but with a 40% increase in energy density to make sure there’s no loss of range and performance. Mercedes-AMG will also deploy advanced axial-flux electric motors from AMG’s British subsidiary Yasa.
Apparently, each unit might weigh just 53 pounds (24 kg) but is capable of delivering up to 480 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. A dual-motor configuration with standard all-wheel drive would provide around 1,000 horsepower, and a tentative tri-motor version would easily hover close to 1,500 hp, vastly outmatching the current Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and the Tesla Model S Plaid.
The design is anyone’s guess, but the CGI expert modeled it after the Vision AMG Concept, and Mercedes-AMG could use the same branding as the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology rather than fully-fledged EQ logos.
