Showing off the BIG guns. Absolute unit of a G550 4×4 on AL13 Wheels HD-008’s 3pc finished in Satin Black | Gloss Black.

There was one time when most G-Wagen enthusiasts would only talk about the 4×4 versions of this iconic model, as well as the 6×6 that hasn’t seen the light of day for the new generation.
We can completely understand the hype behind these models, as they featured quite a lot of technical enhancements, including portal axles in some cases, so they can clear some steep obstacles off the lit path. They also came with roof attachments, extra lights, fender flares, visual mods at the front and rear, and a few other things, and it was their gargantuan height (and size) that truly made them stand out in a sea of SUVs.

It’s been quite a while since we last wrote about the Mercedes-Benz G 550 4×4, or the G 500 4×4 as it is known overseas, but this model is back in the limelight, and it is all due to the example that you can see in the image gallery above. The pictures came to our attention courtesy of @al13wheels on Instagram, and they were uploaded on social media a few days ago, accompanied by a short caption that reveals the obvious.
The alloys obviously came from the quoted wheelmaker’s portfolio, and these are called the HD-008. The HD series is offered in sizes varying from 19 to 24 inches in diameter, AL13’s official website reveals, and they are 1, 2, or 3-piece configurations. In this case, you are looking at a 3-piece set, and this one features a satin black and glossy black paint finish.

These wheels sport an eight-spoke design, and they are on the large side of things. They also have some concavity to them, and were wrapped in rather chunky-looking tires that would probably enhance the Mercedes-Benz G 550 4×4’s traction if the driver decides to leave the comfort of smooth tarmac all of a sudden. The vehicle sports two pairs of DRLs at the front, as well as extra lights above the front windscreen, and also has a muscular hood, tinted lighting units at both ends, and no spare wheel attached to the rear door.
From what we can tell, this model is part of the older generation Mercedes G-Wagen, yet that does not make it any less exciting. In fact, we still think that it looks extremely cool, and we obviously like the spec, which combines white with some black accents. The wheels would probably not be our first choice when trying to make this model cooler with a few tweaks, yet they are definitely not bad at all, especially since they are hugged by those chunky tires.
But what is your take on this 4×4 variant of the older Mercedes G-Class? Is it a yay or a nay in your book?
