2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 43 $107,000 The New Base Model

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got a four-cylinder sports car parked right outside as I write this (an S2000, for the curious), and I’ll be the first to admit that a good four-pot engine (see your favorite ones here) can charm the pants off most enthusiasts. The Golf GTI, for example, is a perennial favorite for a reason.

But a four-cylinder in a high-end sports car like the Mercedes-AMG GT? That feels like a different conversation entirely—especially when the AMG GT 43’s price starts at $105,900, rising to $107,050 with the $1,150 destination and handling fee, making it one of the most expensive four-cylinder cars on the market.

If the AMG faithful were already grumbling louder than a straight-piped V8 over the C63’s eight-pot being swapped out for a highly technical yet cylinder-starved 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid setup, one can only imagine the mental gymnastics required to process the AMG GT 43.

Marketing Spin Meets Reality
Mercedes has done its best to sell the story, touting the “lightweight, handcrafted AMG 2.0L inline-4 turbo engine” that churns out 416 hp thanks to an electric exhaust gas turbocharger with tech borrowed from Formula 1. The marketing fluff also claims the car offers “an engaging dynamic driving experience, agile handling, and extensive standard equipment.”

Fair enough. But here’s the rub: the 0-60 mph sprint takes 4.5 seconds. That’s not slow by any reasonable standard, but in an era when even a $41,200 BMW 230i xDrive Coupe can hit 60 in 5.3 seconds, it doesn’t exactly leave your jaw on the floor.

So how does it compare to the other current offerings in the AMG GT lineup? For about $31,000 more, you can step up to the AMG GT 55 ($137,550 or an increase of $2,650 from the 2024MY ). Here, you’re looking at a bi-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with 469 hp and a 3.8-second 0-60 time. And if you’ve got $179,050 to burn, the AMG GT 63 delivers a more satisfying 577 hp and rockets to 60 in just 3.1 seconds (all prices are devoid of delivery fees).

Be Wary Of Options
The base AMG GT 43 comes decently equipped, with 19-inch wheels, a nappa leather interior, a Burmester Surround Sound System, and a smattering of tech features like surround-view cameras and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. But you better tread lightly with the options—like the multicontour front seats with a massage function, the 20/21-inch wheels, or the adaptive RIDE CONTROL Suspension—as you could easily creep into V8 pricing territory. And at that point, you’d be better off springing for the extra cylinders and performance.

So, Who Is This Car For?
If you’re here for outright performance, a thunderous soundtrack, or numbers that will win you Cars & Coffee meeting points, the four-cylinder AMG GT 43 isn’t going to cut it. But if what you really care about is the badge, the styling, and the exclusivity of driving a four-cylinder AMG GT, maybe this makes sense in a twisted, flex-on-your-neighbors kind of way. Just make sure you keep the hood closed.
