Before putting the controversial 2.0L electrified four-pot in the new-gen C 63, Mercedes-AMG graced the car world with a staggering version of the GT 4-Door Coupe. The model is called the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance and offers an awesome bang for the buck.

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E-Performance with 843HP has BMW M5’s for breakfast!

Presented over two years ago, it is a wolf in clown’s clothing (hey, it’s not the prettiest Merc out there) that offers the best of multiple worlds: a posh interior with plenty of space for backseat occupants, the latest technology, comfort, and safety gear, electric assistance, and neck-snapping performance.

The brand’s ubiquitous 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine develops 630 hp (639 ps/470 kW) between 5,500 and 6,500 rpm. Its thrust is rated at 664 pound-feet (900 Nm), and it is achievable from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm, meaning that you won’t have to rev the heck out of the engine to enjoy it.

Nothing out of the ordinary so far, but we haven’t mentioned the electric motor yet. Backed up by a 6.1 kWh battery, it produces 201 hp (204 ps/150 kW) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque. As for the combined power available via the fun pedal, it is 831 hp (843 ps/620 kW) and over 1,033 lb-ft (1,400 Nm).

Mercedes-AMG’s GT 63 S E Performance uses the brand’s 4Matic+ rear-biased all-wheel-drive system and has a nine-speed auto ‘box delivering everything to both axles. From zero to 62 miles an hour (0 to 100 kph), the super sedan needs only 2.9 seconds. It can sprint to 124 mph (200 kph) in under ten seconds and has a maximum speed of 196 mph (316 kph). That is mind-boggling for something that tips the scales at nearly 5,250 pounds or 2,380 kilograms.

Due to the electric assistance, the average fuel consumption is equivalent to 29.8 mpg (7.9 l/100 km), and it emits 180 g/km of CO2. Mercedes-AMG’s GT 63 S E Performance is also equipped with carbon ceramic brakes to keep that power in check, and it has AMG Dynamics and AMG Ride Control+ suspension. It is also priced accordingly, with the RRP being set at €208,006.05 (equal to $230,032) in its home market of Germany.

That certainly is a lot of money, but then again, it is a great bang for the buck, too, for anyone who can afford it. Still, is it really that great on the open road? Coming to answer this question is AutoTopNL, with a video shot from the cabin that’s not sprinkled with any unuseful information like the driver’s thoughts on the machine. The GT 63 S E Performance was set loose on the German Autobahn, exceeding 187 mph (300 kph) at one point. The video is eight minutes long, and you can watch it below. That said, enjoy!
