As strange as it may sound, Mercedes-AMG GT models will be rolling off the assembly line not only in Affalterbach, Germany, but also in Finland. Contract manufacturer Valmet will be building the model.

A production facility in Uusikaupunki, Finland, will build the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe starting the second half of 2023. The assembly line is ready for both the ICE-powered versions and the hybrid S E Performance.

The plant is already getting ready for the moment. A new assembly line is in the works, while the paint shop will be undergoing a major revision. According to the Mercedes’ partner, approximately 200 people will handle the production of the AMG models, all already hired.

“Manufacturing an AMG is an exceptionally convincing demonstration of Valmet Automotive’s capabilities,” says Valmet Automotive’s SVP of Manufacturing, Pasi Rannus. “With the AMG, we are making vehicles that require special skills and top-of-the-line quality. And it’s great to be back manufacturing sports cars,” he added.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been driving through the gates of the Valmet plant since 2013. In January 2017, the company also kicked off the production of the GLC.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe recently underwent slight mods. The Affalterbach engineers had no business messing with the engine though. The most powerful version of the lineup is the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance, the first plug-in hybrid with the AMG lettering. Before the One came out, it was also the company’s most powerful series production model. The 4.0-liter V8 and a permanently excited synchronous motor send a total of 843 PS (831 HP) and 1,470 Nm (1,084 lb-ft) of torque to the tarmac at its best, via all wheels.

Those are enough for the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) routine in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 316 km/h (196 mph).
