An private person sells on a ad site a very rare R230 Mercedes SL65 AMG Black series from 2009 at a price of 350,000 USD (equivalent to 288,610 euro). For comparison the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series has a price of a 335,240 euro.

Two Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series models are available on the hemmings.com ad site: one offered for $ 350,000 by a private individual and the second for $ 397,500 by a dealer.

It is indeed a special situation that on an ad site to be offered at the same time two units of a very rare model. This is the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series which was produced in only 350 units between 2008 and 2011. Of these, 175 arrived in the USA, 30 in Germany and 5 in France. There were also several right-hand drive units: 7 in Australia, 5 in South Africa and 9 in the UK. Very few models from Mercedes have received a Black Series version. The last of them is the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series which develops 730 HP from the 4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine and costs 335,240 euros.

The only generation Mercedes SL that had a Black Series version was the R 230 launched in 2011. The SL 65 Black Series version was launched in 2008 with the facelift. It had under the hood the 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine (codenamed M275 AMG) that develops 670 HP and 1000 Nm, 58 hp more than the SL 65 AMG version. The power difference was obtained by using 12% larger turbos.

The engine was mated with a 5-speed AMG Speedshift Plus automatic transmission with Comfort, Sport, M1 and M2 modes. On M2 mode, the gear change times were 25% shorter than on M1.

Although it looks almost like a normal SL, the SL 65 Black Series had nothing in common with it but the doors and mirrors. All other body components have been replaced with carbon fiber-reinforced plastic parts. And the rigid retractable roof was replaced with a fixed one and thus space was made for the retractable aileron. By using carbon and a fixed roof, the Mercedes SL 65 AMG Black Series is 250 kg lighter than the SL 65 AMG. Top speed is limited to 322 km/h (200 mph) and acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes place in just 3.8 seconds.

By comparison, the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and reaches 325 km/h.

In addition to the retractable aileron, the SL 65 Black Series stands out with the much flared wings needed to make room for the very wide Dunlop Sport Maxx GT 265/35 R19 front and 325/30 R20 rear tires. And the track are wider, with 97 mm at the front and 85 mm at the rear.

The model offered for sale on the website www.hemmings.com has only 10,000 miles on board and the VIN number is WDBSK79F99F154797. It is painted in irridium silver color and the interior is in black exclusive AMG leather. The asking price is 350,000 USD (288,610 euros) and is negotiable. By comparison the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series costs 335,240 euros. We could say that it is a lot considering that it is a 2009 model but it was still kept in perfect condition and has a low mileage of only 10,000 miles.
