New Mercedes-Benz S-Class renderings with updated rear end. The design is partly inspired by the Vision Iconic concept and W111 (grille and low mounted taillights). The next generation will be revealed in 2028 and will be full electric (will be produced along with the current ICE S-Class). Is it better than the current one?

Mercedes’ S-Class reached its seventh generation in 2020 and continues to be the ride of choice for countless deep-pocketed enthusiasts from all over the world who seek a large and luxurious sedan.
The W233, as the three-pointed star brand calls it, builds on an updated version of the MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) construction. It benefits from a four-link front suspension, an independent rear suspension, and also has standard air suspension that automatically lowers it at high speeds to increase its stability.
It shares its nuts and bolts with the latest iterations of the C-Class, E-Class, CLE, and GLC, and it is also the same car beneath the skin as the Mercedes-Maybach versions. The powertrain family is extremely vast, though it varies from one market to another. China, for instance, gets a 2.5L straight-six engine, which is the smallest mill available for this model. A few V8 units are also available, alongside a diesel, and the top-of-the-line Maybach boasts a twin-turbocharged V12.
Mercedes’ current S-Class still has a few good years left in it before the automaker will retire it and replace it with a new generation. The future model is expected to feature a Level 4 autonomous driving system, marking a significant departure from its predecessor. This is pretty much everything that we know about the brand’s next-gen flagship sedan, as from here on, it is all about the rumor mill. Yes, that also applies to the alleged unveiling year, which has been rumored to be close to the turn of the decade.

Since the unveiling of the gorgeous Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic Concept a couple of weeks ago, various rendering artists have gone wild trying to imagine what the future S-Class will look like with some styling cues borrowed from the study. One of the latest to have done that is @kelsonik, who released the renderings you see above in the photo gallery on social media a few days back.
The CGI car has an extremely large grille at the front, which was virtually sourced from the aforementioned show car, flanked by a pair of teardrop-shaped LED headlights with a star-studded DRL signature. Some of the back-end design was also inspired by the concept, and compared to the current S-Class, this rendered next-generation model looks way more imposing and, dare we say, better, like much better.
We’d very much like Mercedes’ design team to see these digital illustrations and decide to base the future S-Class on them, as we believe it is a drop-dead gorgeous machine that will definitely lift the bar (design-wise) for the future BMW 7 Series and Audi A8 if it comes out of hiding looking like this. Do you dig the CGI-infused look as much as we do?
