The market launch of the GLB 250+ with EQ Technology and the GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology will start in the spring of 2026. With a reassuring range of up to 631 kilometres (WLTP), the 200 kW GLB 250+ offers a range that is unrivalled in its class. The sporty top-of-the-line model is the 260 kW GLB 350 4MATIC. Both models feature a lithium-ion battery with a usable energy capacity of 85 kWh. And with a state-of-the-art 800-volt electric architecture, up to 260 kilometres of range (WLTP)2 can be added in just ten minutes. The model range will soon be expanded to include additional battery-electric variants, including an entry-level model as well as high-tech hybrids.
 
Sales launch of the electric GLB
Starting December 8, 2025, customers in Germany can configure and order two models online. The GLB 250+ with EQ Technology is available at a list price starting at €59,048, while the GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology starts at €62,178. And to make the dream of owning a GLB particularly easy to realise, there are attractive leasing and financing conditions, such as a monthly leasing rate of €305 for private customers.
 
Flexible: room for family, friends and spontaneous plans
The new GLB comes as either a five-seater or a seven-seater. Those who opt for the version with two additional seats in the third row can travel to the next league match with an entire tennis team or pile the neighbour’s children in and haul them to the school festival. Even last-minute changes to plans don’t faze GLB drivers – with a longitudinally adjustable bench seat in the second row, there’s even room for plants from the garden centre, a good friend’s moving boxes or that flea market bargain.
 
Spacious: plenty of freedom of movement and room for luggage
Compared to its predecessor, the new electric GLB offers a noticeable increase in headroom in the first two rows of seats. This is thanks to the SUV’s roofline as well as a standard panoramic roof. Passengers can also enjoy more legroom in the rear. Seating comfort in the second row has been noticeably improved, with the thigh support now longer, among other things.
 
And for the family holiday, parents no longer have to juggle their luggage. With 127 litres (104 l according to ISO 3832), the model has the largest front boot (“frunk”) in the new model family – enough space for a crate of drinks, or three footballs, or a compact tent. The rear boot has a capacity of up to 540/480 litres (five/seven-seater), and with the rear seatbacks folded down, this increases to 1,715/1,605 litres.
 
Adventurous: ready for journeys beyond the everyday
An idyllic campsite on a meadow? A cosy barbecue evening with friends in a cabin at the edge of the forest? The most exciting locations are often found off the beaten track. No problem for the 4MATIC versions – when traction is needed, the electric motor on the front axle kicks in at blazing speed. The 4MATIC models also feature TERRAIN MODE. This driving programme for fields and gravel roads adjusts the characteristics of the drivetrain, steering and brakes to support the driver. The “Transparent Bonnet” function provides a virtual view under the entire vehicle, making it easier to manoeuvre in rough terrain. The towing capacity is up to two tonnes, which is a top value for BEVs in this vehicle category. This makes the electric GLB models suitable as towing vehicles for full-size caravans. Thanks to a high drawbar load of 100 kilograms, e-bikes can also be taken along on weekend trips and holidays.
 
Safe: predictive technology for a high level of protection
The new GLB has a comprehensive range of driver assistance systems, including DISTRONIC distance control as standard in Europe. The hardware in this region comprises eight cameras, five radar sensors, 12 ultrasonic sensors and a water-cooled high-performance computer with sufficient power reserves for future functions and regular over-the-air updates. Mercedes-Benz now bundles all assistance systems under the name MB.DRIVE. Many Digital extras will already be available at market launch or can be ordered via the Mercedes-Benz Store. Further Digital Extras will also be updateable at a later date.
 
Suitable for long distances: master long journeys without stopping
From Cologne to Berlin; from Rome to Venice; from Lyon to Strasbourg – there are many interesting cities in Europe within a distance of around 600 kilometres. The same applies to China, where Xi’an and Zhengzhou are connected by a comparable distance, as well as the U.S. A similarly long trip in the States is Denver to Salt Lake City. All of those trips can be completed non-stop thanks to 631 kilometres (WLTP) range of the GLB 250+.
 
Time-efficient: ready for the next stage in just a few minutes
To go even further than that, energy can be recharged quickly: the 800-volt system, in conjunction with a new battery generation, ensures short charging times. The GLB can be recharged for a range of up to 260 kilometres (WLTP) within 10 minutes. Fast DC charging is possible at 800-volt charging stations with a charging capacity of up to 320 kW. However, the GLB can also use a 400-volt charging infrastructure. A DC converter is available as an option. The AC charging capacity is up to 22 kW.
 
Comfortable: dynamic suspension for relaxed travel or driving pleasure
The suspension with adaptive damping, which comes as standard in combination with 20-inch wheels, ensures a particularly comfortable or alternatively sporty driving experience. Drivers can use the DYNAMIC SELECT switch to change the vehicle’s damping characteristics. They can choose between Comfort mode with more comfortable damping characteristics or Sport mode for a sporty, firm setting.
 
Kid-friendly: plenty of space and four child seat anchorages
Few cars in this class allow more than two child seats to be fitted in the rear. The new GLB has families in mind – a total of four child seats can be installed in rows two and three, plus one in the front passenger seat.
 
Open to technology: hybrid with three power levels
A few months after its market launch, the new GLB will also be available as an attractive entry-level electric model and as a high-tech hybrid with 48-volt technology and an electric motor integrated into the transmission. The state-of-the-art combustion engine will initially be available in three power levels. GLB hybrid models will be able to drive purely electrically and recuperate energy under certain conditions. Buyers will have the choice between front-wheel drive and 4MATIC.
 
Striking: powerful proportions and iconic lighting accents
Powerful SUV proportions with an upright front and steep windscreen, as well as short overhangs, characterise the side view. Surrounding wheel-arch cladding and visual underride protection at the front and rear emphasise the off-road character. A wide track and flush-mounted wheels, together with muscular vehicle shoulders, give the GLB a powerful appearance. A total of 94 individually animated LED stars in a chrome look are the highlights of the iconic radiator grille. Depending on country-specific legal regulations, the central star is also illuminated in whole or in part. One of the few visual distinguishing features of the GLB hybrid is that it has the classic radiator grille with a Mercedes-Benz pattern in chrome, surrounded by a standard LED light guide.
 
Spectacular views: generous panoramic roof for unlimited visibility
The large standard panoramic roof creates an exceptionally spacious and open feeling. Within milliseconds, the glass surface of the optional SKY CONTROL panoramic roof can be switched back and forth between transparent for an unobstructed view upwards and opaque (milky) for more privacy (optional extra). The GLB offers a unique visual experience, especially at night, when its 158 stars are illuminated.
 
Modern: high-tech design meets ergonomic control
The new interior design principle focuses attention on a few iconic high-tech elements, such as the seemingly floating MBUX Superscreen (optional). Behind its large glass surface are a 26-centimetre (10.25-inch) screen for the driver, a 35.6-centimetre (14-inch) central display and a 35.6-centimetre (14-inch) screen for the front passenger. Another eye-catching feature is the floating, sporty, high-positioned centre console with an additional storage compartment. The new steering wheel is ergonomically designed and intuitive to use. In response to numerous customer requests, Mercedes-Benz has reintroduced a rocker switch for the limiter and DISTRONIC, as well as a roller for volume control.
 
Individual: unique ambient styles and a wide range of equipment options
With the Progressive Line, AMG Line and AMG Line Plus equipment lines as well as the Night Package and other equipment options, the GLB can be configured in a wide variety of ways to suit customer requirements. There is also a large selection of trim elements and interior materials. Another customisation option is the selection of 11 ambient styles for the MBUX Superscreen. This allows users to create a personal atmosphere in the vehicle. The colour scheme of the instrument cluster, including gauges, controls and ambient lighting, is coordinated with these emotional background motifs.
 
Intuitive: a new world of comprehensive digital experiences with MBUX and technological innovations (MB.OS)
The new GLB fully operates on the in-house-developed Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS). The AI-enhanced system makes it possible to equip every vehicle with supercomputers connected to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud. This enables regular over-the-air updates for the most important vehicle functions, including driving assistance systems. This keeps the GLB up-to-date and attractive for years to come. On the way to a hyper-personalised digital experience: the fourth MBUX generation
MB.OS marks the start of the fourth MBUX generation. It opens up a new world of personalised experiences and intuitive interaction between human and vehicle, setting new standards in the automotive industry. The new MBUX generation is the first in-car infotainment system to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) from both Microsoft and Google. This combines multiple AI agents in one system for the first time. MB.OS offers maximum flexibility to seamlessly integrate content from third-party providers. The typical Mercedes interface remains, delivering the familiar customer experience.
 
Exceptionally intuitive and individual: the new MBUX UI/UX concept
The MBUX Superscreen is powered by state-of-the-art high-performance chips and real-time graphics from the Unity Game Engine. The new control and display concept is tailored to individual customer preferences. The further developed MBUX Zero Layer on the central display shows the most important information, suggestions and, for the first time, the most recently used apps. In the app view, apps can now be moved and grouped into individually named folders, similar to a smartphone. When an app is open, a simple swipe to the left returns to the app view. Another swipe takes the user back to the Zero Layer. Alternatively, they can still go directly to the Zero Layer at any time via the home button.
 
Intelligent, easy to talk to and empathetic like a friend: the new MBUX Virtual Assistant
With generative AI, the new MBUX Virtual Assistant revolutionises the relationship between vehicle and driver. It enables the kinds of complex, multi-turn dialogues one might have with a friend and has short-term memory. Based on ChatGPT4o and searches with Microsoft Bing, it unites the collective knowledge of the internet. Thanks to Google Gemini, the virtual assistant is also well-versed in navigation-related questions. It can access information from the Google Maps platform to provide users with detailed and personalised answers to questions about navigation, points of interest and much more. The MBUX Virtual Assistant is always present on the Zero Layer as a “living” avatar.
 
Intelligent navigation you can trust: based on Google Maps
In the new GLB, the navigation experience is based on Google Maps. The navigation solution developed as part of the partnership between Google and Mercedes-Benz is one of the first integrations of Google Cloud’s new Automotive AI Agent for in-vehicle conversation services with Google Maps. Mercedes-Benz Navigation with Electric Intelligence plans the fastest and most convenient route, including charging stops, based on numerous factors. Integrated visual communication also reaches a new dimension with MBUX Surround Navigation. It seamlessly integrates the driver-assistance view with a 3D representation of the surroundings and route guidance in real-time on the driver display. Drivers benefit from improved situational awareness, seeing what the GLB sees and how the assistance systems support them.
 
The dimensional concept and the utility value
Flexibility is key: the new GLB is available as a five-seater and seven-seater. Those who opt for the version with two additional seats in the third row can travel to the next league match with an entire tennis team, pile the neighbour’s children in and haul them to the school festival or seat Aunt Gerda and Uncle Herbert far apart after the family function. This gives the GLB an exceptional position among compact electric cars.
 
The two additional individual seats in the optional third row comfortably accommodate people up to 1.71 metres tall. That is three centimetres more than in the previous model. It is also easier to get into the third row of seats than in the previous model. This is due in part to the Easy Entry function’s 32-millimeter longer adjustment range and the enlarged rear door cutouts. Another plus for everyday use: the doors extend over the sills. This not only increases entry comfort but also keeps the door cut-outs (and thus your trousers) free of dirt.
 
Seating comfort in the second seating row has also been improved. Passengers sit even more comfortably as the hip angle has been improved by 9 degrees, providing a greater contact area for the thighs on the seat. In addition, Mercedes-Benz has improved the foam in the seats and optimised the contouring for lateral support.
 
Compared to its predecessor, the wheelbase has increased by 60 millimetres to 2,889 millimetres. This particularly benefits rear passengers: the increased legroom in the second row of seats, up to 68 mm, makes travelling even more comfortable for them. The SUV’s roof line and the standard panoramic roof offer advantages in terms of headroom and spaciousness. Compared to the EQB, the maximum headroom has been increased by 35 mm for the driver and front passenger and by 64 mm and 10 mm respectively for the rear passengers in the second and third rows.
 

No more juggling luggage
Are you only taking your tricycle and electric barbecue on your big holiday, or will your SUP board somehow fit in the boot as well? Should you pack flexible sports bags or take the large, sturdy suitcase? And don’t forget your favourite toys … Before family holidays, parents often find themselves playing puzzle with their luggage, as there is usually much more to take than there is space in the car. It has enough space for a crate of drinks, or three footballs, or a compact tent … The boot opening is generously sized for convenient loading. The rear boot has a capacity of up to 540/480 litres (five/seven-seater), and with the rear seatbacks folded down, this increases to 1,715/1,605 litres.
 
The rear seats are split 40/20/40 as standard and the backrests can be folded down individually according to this split. A longitudinally adjustable rear-seat bench is available as an option for the five-seater, while it comes as standard in the seven-seater. With this feature, the second row can be moved 140 millimetres in length, and the backrests can be reclined in several stages. This allows you to either maximise seating comfort for passengers or increase the boot space in several stages by up to 140 litres for versatile use.
 
To increase the luggage compartment, the optional third-row seats can be lowered into the load floor. In the five-seater, the height-adjustable load compartment floor can be used in a variety of ways. It can be used to maximise the loading height or to store smaller things in the double floor.
 
Always ready for little getaways from everyday life

When traction is needed, the disconnect unit (DCU) instantly engages the drive unit on the front axle, which is otherwise decoupled as often as possible for efficiency reasons.
 
In addition, the 4MATIC models feature TERRAIN MODE. This driving programme for field or gravel roads adjusts the characteristics of the drive, steering and brakes. The “Transparent Bonnet” function provides a virtual view under the vehicle by combining images from the front camera and the exterior mirror cameras.
 
Always a clear view: VISION CONTROL
The new GLB comes with the innovative VISION CONTROL windscreen wiper system as standard. This cleans the windscreen particularly quickly and thoroughly. Water is sprayed from the windscreen wiper directly in front of the rubber blade as required. No more sudden bursts of water obscuring the driver’s view. At the same time, the fluid is not deflected from the windscreen but is used exclusively for cleaning. VISION CONTROL also reliably keeps the area at the top of the windscreen, where the cameras and sensors for the driver assistance systems are located, clean.
 
The system offers a soaking function for stubborn dirt. This also allows fresh insect residues to be removed. The wipers move to the vertical position and washer fluid is sprayed while the wiper is moved to the lower storage position. After a 30-second soak, the loosened dirt is wiped off the windscreen in one cycle. The function is activated by pressing and holding the button on the steering column lever for one wash cycle while the vehicle is stationary. A corresponding message appears in the driver’s display.
 
A pleasant temperature shortly after getting in
Freezing in an electric car? Mercedes-Benz drivers only know this from hearsay. The new GLB takes efficiency and climate comfort to a new level. For example, during a 20-minute journey at an outside temperature of -7° Celsius, it heats up the interior twice as fast as its predecessor. This means it even beats the heating time of a conventionally powered model. Compared to its predecessor, the GLB only needs about half the energy for this. This has a positive effect on the electric range.
 
The heating process starts automatically as soon as someone gets into the car. Mercedes-Benz’s strategy is to warm the upper body and hands first. This ensures rapid thermal comfort, even without using pre-conditioning. In addition, the system is now even more intuitive and convenient to use and can be adapted to individual needs in many ways. Regardless of whether the occupants are charging, sitting in the vehicle or even taking a nap, the system seamlessly regulates heating and cooling with the help of its intelligent, predictive operating strategy.
 
At frosty temperatures, the heating system must also defrost icy windows as quickly as possible. Tests conducted in the cold chamber in Sindelfingen demonstrate how efficient the defrosting process is in the new GLB. At an outside temperature of -15° Celsius, it takes only 15 minutes for the windscreen to be clear enough to drive off. And this is achieved solely with the help of the heating system’s defrost setting, without any further action on the part of the driver.
 
The technical background for this noticeable increase in comfort is an innovative heat pump adapted from the VISION EQXX technology programme. As a multi-source unit, it can use three energy sources in parallel: the waste heat from the electric drive and the battery, as well as the ambient air. By using this “free” heat, the heat pump contributes to the high efficiency of the GLB. It requires only about one-third of the electrical energy that a comparable auxiliary heater would need to deliver the same output. And if the owner plans to go on holiday the next morning, the standard pre-conditioning function can be used. This ensures that the vehicle is already at the desired temperature when it is started.
 
The drivetrain, suspension, safety features and assistance systems

Newly developed electric drive system with 93 percent efficiency
The Electric Drive Unit (EDU) 2.0 resolves the conflict between maximum torque, top speed and excellent efficiency – especially in real-world driving. The high torque not only ensures dynamic driving performance but is also helpful for tackling inclines on mountain passes or towing loads. The all-electric GLB models can tow up to 2 tonnes with the semi-electric trailer hitch (optional), making them suitable for towing full-size caravans.
 
With the main drive on the rear axle for optimal traction and driving characteristics, Mercedes-Benz brings a drive layout known from the mid and upper classes to the entry-level segment. The 200-kW electric drive unit with a permanently excited synchronous motor (PSM) on the rear axle was developed entirely in-house. Battery-to-wheel efficiency over long distances is 93 percent.
 
The magnets in the rotor are arranged in a double-V shape. Another feature is the winding of the stator with so-called hairpin windings. These measures contribute to an especially quiet drive. The PSM also has a significantly lower proportion – almost zero percent – of heavy rare earth elements compared to previous motor generations. The high-performance power electronics are equipped with a silicon carbide (SiC) inverter for particularly efficient energy use. Transmission control and inverter are highly integrated into a single component.
 
Sprinter and marathon runner in one: two-speed transmission combines dynamics with high efficiency
The drive architecture includes a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, combining performance with efficiency. The first gear has a short ratio of 11:1, enabling excellent acceleration right from the start, a high towing capacity and great efficiency in urban traffic. The second gear (ratio: 5:1) is designed for power delivery at high speeds and high efficiency on the motorway for outstanding long-distance range and comfort. The top speed is also achieved in the second gear.
 
The shift points depend on the driving situation and the selected DYNAMIC SELECT driving programme. Additionally, the online optimiser continuously adjusts them to current parameters such as battery charge level, power and driver requirements. Power is transmitted via claws (first gear) or discs (second gear). The transmission has special thermal insulation.
 
Additional power only when needed: 4MATIC model with Disconnect Unit
The GLB 350 4MATIC all-wheel drive model also features an 80-kW drive unit on the front axle. This unit is likewise equipped with a silicon carbide (SiC) inverter for efficiency and is designed as a permanently excited synchronous motor (PSM). The front electric motor functions as a “boost” drive, activated only when additional power or traction is needed, depending on the driving situation or programme. This task is handled by the Disconnect Unit (DCU), which Mercedes-Benz is using for the first time in this segment
 
For higher efficiency, the DCU can quickly decouple the front electric motor under low load, causing the electric motor and parts of the transmission to stand still. This reduces front axle losses by up to 90 percent and increases range.
 
The GLB provides power storage for the home: equipped for bidirectional charging
The electric GLB is prepared for the networking of electric vehicles with the power grid. When the vehicle is connected to a compatible bidirectional DC charging station, it becomes an energy storage unit that can store, for instance, solar power for later use. More importantly, it can also serve as a power supplier, either Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) or Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G).
 
The bidirectional charging function will be available at a later date, after market launch, through an over-the-air update. The use of bidirectional charging may be subject to market-specific conditions regarding legislation and the requirements of energy providers.
 
Intelligent recuperation for maximum range
The electric GLB features a new one-box brake system. Previously separate components such as the brake booster with master brake cylinder and ESP® control are combined into a compact module – hence the name. The system optimises the recovery of braking energy, increasing range. The by-wire concept ensures a consistent, assured and transparent brake pedal feel for the driver, regardless of whether braking is through recuperation or friction braking. Additionally, the new brake system meets the brand’s high safety standards. In the event of a fault, the system reliably switches to the hydraulic fallback, ensuring safe braking behaviour at all times.
 
For efficiency reasons, almost all braking processes are carried out entirely through recuperation. The recuperation power is up to 200 kW. In principle, the models can even brake electrically to a standstill, thus recovering kinetic energy. The strong deceleration (up to 3 m/s² per axle) means more recovered energy and, ultimately, a longer range. Recuperation is possible even during ABS braking or on icy roads.
 
The driver can use the selector lever behind the steering wheel to adjust the recuperation power and select a recuperation level. There are four possible recuperation levels:
– D Auto: intelligent recuperation
– D+: no recuperation (coasting)
– D: standard recuperation up to 1 m/s2
– D-: enhanced recuperation up to 3 m/s2
 

All four recuperation levels are available as “Last Mode”. In the D Auto recuperation level, the ECO Assistant is automatically active. Depending on the equipment, it can use data stored in the navigation map as well as information from sensors and cameras to determine the anticipated route of the vehicle. This system helps optimise driving behaviour for the upcoming situation, minimising energy consumption and maximising recuperation. The following route events can be detected: roundabouts, tight bends, junctions, T-intersections, inclines and speed limits. The ECO Assistant can also respond to other intersections or junctions if the turn signal is activated in time.
 
When the system detects an upcoming event or a vehicle ahead and the vehicle approaches the event, the ECO Assistant calculates the optimised speed profile based on distance, current speed and available route information. The symbol “Foot off the pedal” appears on the driver display. Following this prompt activates intelligent recuperation in coasting mode. If the ECO Assistant detects a vehicle ahead or a stationary vehicle, it can even bring the GLB to a complete stop. This could be, for instance, at the end of a traffic jam or before a traffic light.
 
MB.DRIVE sets a new standard with state-of-the-art driving assistance and parking systems
The new GLB models in Europe come as standard with extensive safety and comfort features. The technical details in this region include eight cameras, five radar sensors, 12 ultrasonic sensors and a water-cooled high-performance computer with sufficient power reserves for future functions and regular over-the-air updates.
 
Mercedes-Benz now bundles all assistance systems under the name MB.DRIVE. The following digital extras are available or planned and can also be added later via the Mercedes-Benz Store:
– MB.DRIVE ASSIST: available as an option from market launch in Europe, it offers significantly more comfort by complementing Distance Assist DISTRONIC with Steering Assist, making it a state-of-the-art SAE Level 2 driving assistance system. New in the GLB is Lane Change Assist, which facilitates lane changes with a simple click of the indicator stalk.
– MB.DRIVE ASSIST PLUS: this function is to be offered from next year onwards and provides market-specific advanced assistance functions. These include, for example, the further developed automatic lane change on motorways.
– MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO: this state-of-the-art assistance system includes two additional cameras, enabling new advanced assistance functions in urban traffic. Thanks to its modular design, MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO can be made available worldwide in the GLB. The market launch will start in China, as the regulatory framework there allows this.
– MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST: is better and faster able to recognise parking spaces on both sides than in the previous model and also supports angled parking. It also detects parking spaces marked not only with white lines. Plus, it is now possible to leave a parking space automatically even after the car was parked manually.
– MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360: adds new and improved surround views and a new-look HMI to the Parking Assist package.
 
Passive safety: comprehensive protection complemented by intelligent systems
The new GLB has been developed from the ground up with state-of-the-art safety features. That’s because Mercedes-Benz wants the GLB to be the safest car in its class. The driver assistance systems can prevent many accidents. However, should an accident occur, the crumple zones, stable passenger cell and restraint systems are designed to minimise the likelihood of serious injury. Vulnerable target groups enjoy special protection. For example, the biomechanics of older occupants taken into account with special limit values.
 
The bodyshell offers enhanced protection in the event of a side impact. To this end, a compact honeycomb structure is built into the side skirts to better absorb energy. As an SUV, the GLB also meets Mercedes-Benz’s particularly high requirements in terms of operational stability.
 
The new generation is the first GLB to feature a centre airbag as standard. In the event of a severe side impact, it is deployed between the driver and front passenger. Another new feature in this model series are knee airbags on both the driver and front passenger sides (depending on the market).
 
The comprehensive safety features in the rear include adjustable head restraints and seat belts with belt tensioners and force limiters on all outer seats. Up to four child seats can be attached in the rear, two iSize models in the second row and two ISOFIX seats in the third row. Front side airbags and window airbags on both sides are fitted as standard. These unfold like a curtain, covering a large area from the A-pillars to the D-pillars across the front and rear side windows. Side airbags for the rear row of seats are available as an option, increasing passenger protection in the event of a side impact.
 
With PRE-SAFE®, Mercedes-Benz vehicles can react to dangers before an accident occurs. This anticipatory safety system is available as an option on the new GLB. Its functions include, for example, closing the windows and pre-tensioning the seat belts with reversible belt tensioners in certain critical driving situations before an imminent collision, or moving the front passenger seat into a more upright position if the seat is equipped with a memory function. Preventive measures in the event of a detected impending accident also include preconditioning the ears with PRE-SAFE® Sound.
 
Proven multi-stage high-voltage protection system and further developed battery monitoring system
In addition to protecting the occupants of an electric vehicle as well as other road users, Mercedes-Benz places emphasis on the protection of the energy storage system. An all-electric vehicle has, in addition to the familiar 12-volt system, a high-voltage system that includes the high-voltage battery and connected consumers, such as the electric motors for the drive and components like the air conditioning. Beyond legal requirements, both the overall vehicle and the high-voltage battery, high-voltage (HV) lines, and other HV components must meet strict Mercedes-Benz standards.
 
In the GLB, the battery housing is integrated into the crash concept as part of the vehicle structure. Additionally, for the new high-voltage battery generation, Mercedes-Benz has taken comprehensive precautions against potential thermal reactions. These include appropriate spacing between the high-voltage battery cells as wells as adaptations to the structure of the cells and cell modules. The enhanced monitoring system not only alerts the occupants but also triggers additional protective measures within the vehicle. These include automatically closing side windows and ventilation flaps.
 
In the GLB, Mercedes-Benz has implemented its multi-stage protection concept of high-voltage safety. This ensures that there is no danger from electrical components for occupants, first responders and emergency services after an accident. This protection concept has already proven itself in other all-electric models from Mercedes-Benz, confirmed by findings from Mercedes-Benz Accident Research. In the event of a severe accident, the high-voltage system is automatically shut down, with a distinction made between reversible and irreversible shutdown.
 
Reversible shutdown occurs in minor accidents. If the driver attempts to restart the car after the automatic shutdown, an isolation measurement is automatically performed in the background. A restart is only possible if the system is error-free, ensuring that still-drivable vehicles remain operational. In severe accidents, where the vehicle is typically no longer drivable, the high-voltage system is irreversibly shut down. Irreversible means that only a specialist workshop can reactivate the vehicle.
 
During automatic shutdown, targeted discharging of the components ensures that they pose no danger. For rescue workers, there are also cut-off points where they can manually de-energise the high-voltage system.
 
Comfort or sportiness at the touch of a button: suspension with DYNAMIC SELECT available
The lower control arm comprises the transverse and thrust arms, both made of forged aluminium. As with a McPherson configuration, the strut guides the wheel and is directly connected to the steering knuckle. The third link, the tie rod, is part of the rack-and-pinion steering. The transverse steering gear is positioned in front of the wheel centre, leading to the desired self-steering behaviour and precise steering response. The steering knuckle, connecting the lower control arm with the strut and supporting the wheel and brake system, is made of cast aluminium. In addition to lightweight construction, high camber stiffness was prioritised for this component, creating the best conditions for good steering response and low noise. At the rear is a newly developed multi-link axle. This high-quality suspension concept is well known from Mercedes-Benz vehicles from the mid- and full-size classes. The company is now also bringing it to this segment.
 
In combination with 20-inch wheels, the GLB comes standard with a suspension with adaptive adjustable damping. Drivers can use the DYNAMIC SELECT switch to change the vehicle’s damping characteristics. They can choose between Comfort mode with more comfortable damping characteristics and Sport mode for a sporty, firm suspension setup. Multiple sensors continuously monitor the suspension status, the driving situation and the driver’s driving style, and adjust the damping individually for each wheel.
 
Modular architecture enables brilliant electric models and high-tech hybrids
All-electric models play a key role in implementing Mercedes-Benz’s sustainable business strategy. However, the desires and mobility needs of customers in different regions of the world determine the pace of this transformation. A few months after the launch of its fully electric sibling, the new GLB will also be available as a hybrid with 48-volt technology and an electric motor integrated into the transmission. The modular architecture of the GLB model family allows Mercedes-Benz maximum flexibility in the drive concept and production.
 
Visually, the GLB hybrid closely resembles its electric counterpart, allowing customers to choose between the two drive configurations based on their personal driving profile and usage. One of the few distinguishing features is the GLB hybrid’s grille. It has a classic grille with the Mercedes-Benz star pattern in chrome, framed as standard by an LED light guide.
 
The highly efficient powertrain was developed by Mercedes-Benz engineers in Germany according to proven quality standards. The state-of-the-art combustion engine in the GLB hybrid will initially be available in three power levels. Buyers will have the choice between front-wheel drive and 4MATIC. Technical data and further details, including equipment, will follow later in the year before the sales launch.
 
Hybrid models can drive purely electrically and recuperate
The engine and transmission design is very compact thanks to the cylinder spacing and the side-by-side arrangement of the electric motor. The electric motor, inverter and transmission form a highly integrated unit. A newly developed 48-volt battery with lithium-ion technology offers an energy content of up to 1.3 kWh. Once again, the design is particularly compact: the battery cells and the DC/DC converter are integrated into the “flatpack”.
 
The electric motor provides intelligent support across the entire speed range. It significantly improves acceleration, especially at low engine speeds. At urban speeds and when less than 20 kW is needed, the hybrid models can drive using electric power alone. So-called electric sailing, i.e., efficient coasting with a decoupled drivetrain, is possible up to a speed of around 100 km/h. A special feature of the motor is its ability to recuperate in all eight gears, recovering up to 25 kW of energy.
 
Since the torque output of the combustion engine and the electric motor add up, the maximum torque is available over a wide speed range. Furthermore, the combustion engine can be started entirely by the electric motor and the disconnect clutch, eliminating the need for a conventional pinion starter. The start-stop function and switching between the two motors are almost imperceptible to the driver.
 
The electric motor, including the inverter, is integrated into a new, very compact eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (8F-eDCT). This development is called “eDCT” because the electric motor is integrated into the transmission, and control of the mechanical system is electrohydraulic. An electric motor serves both lines of the dual clutch. Power transmission and disconnection are achieved via two drive clutches and a disconnect clutch. The wide spread of the eight gear ratios also benefits efficiency, as it enables optimisation of the engine operating points.
 
New four-cylinder engine from the FAME engine family with Miller cycle combustion process
The combustion engine, developed by Mercedes-Benz, is a four-cylinder petrol unit with a 1.5-litre displacement. The engine, designated M 252, belongs to the Family of Modular Engines (FAME) and is suitable for a variety of vehicle applications.
 
Common features of the FAME engines include an all-aluminium crankcase with NANOSLIDE® technology and a cylinder head with a partially integrated exhaust manifold. They are also equipped with a turbocharger with a segmented turbine and switchable scroll connection. Other highlights are the compact charge-air path and the exhaust system mounted close to the engine. Its one-box design is prepared for future emission standards. The concept of the electric refrigerant compressor with 48-volt technology, adopted from the M 256, reduces friction and allows the vehicle to be air-conditioned when stationary and during electric driving.
 
For efficiency reasons, the petrol engine uses a combustion process based on the Miller cycle. The relatively early closing of the intake valves reduces throttling losses and allows a high compression ratio of 12:1. This design helps keep efficiency high and fuel consumption low, especially under partial load, which is very common in everyday driving. This also reduces NOx emissions.
 
The new engine-transmission unit has compact dimensions and is installed transversely between the steering knuckles. Another advantage is the exemplary NVH behaviour (Noise, Vibrations, Harshness). Conceptually, the M 252 is already at an advantage here because Mercedes-Benz uses four instead of three cylinders. Additionally, the engine has an extensive NVH package of foams and covers to reduce sound radiation. Added to this is the double-bulkhead concept, known from higher vehicle classes. Furthermore, the bulkhead insulation has been extended into the sides of the A-pillar and the floor.
 

MB.CHARGE Public: integrated digital charging service
Mercedes-Benz groups all the functions of public charging into the digital extra MB.CHARGE Public (formerly Mercedes me Charge), offering numerous exclusive benefits to its customers. Just one charging contract gives them access to one of the world’s largest charging networks. It also ensures they can always charge in the familiar user-friendly way, regardless of station operator.
 
In the electric GLB, authentication is via the Mercedes-Benz app, the MB.CHARGE Public RFID card or directly via Plug & Charge at participating charging stations. Each charging process is automatically billed through MB.CHARGE Public. Mercedes-Benz also ensures maximum cost transparency at public charging stations. Before charging, users can view the specific costs per kilowatt-hour or per minute and the estimated total cost for a full charge on the MBUX display or in the Mercedes-Benz app. Additionally, MB.CHARGE Public offers different tariffs and packages with discounted charging conditions depending on the region.
 
Mercedes-Benz is continuously expanding the charging network through its own activities to build public charging infrastructure worldwide. Around 45,000 charging points will be created by the end of the decade through the global Mercedes-Benz Charging Network and the joint ventures IONITY, IONNA and IONCHI in Europe, North America and China. These will also be accessible via MB.CHARGE Public.
 
Green Charging: Mercedes-Benz is committed to charging with renewable energy
Green Charging is an integral part of MB.CHARGE Public in Europe, Canada and the U.S. If renewable energy is not yet available at the respective charging station, Green Charging uses green electricity certificates. These ensure that an equivalent amount of electricity from renewable sources is fed into the grid for charging processes. These are green electricity certificates from certified energy generation plants that are less than six years old. Wherever possible, the green electricity certificates are purchased and cancelled in the same country where the customer charges. This contributes to the further expansion of renewable energy.
 
Starting with the new generation of electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz is extending its Green Charging initiative to private households. With intelligent home charging solutions, private customers can increase the share of renewable energy when charging their electric vehicles via a wallbox and reduce their carbon footprint.
 
The design and aerodynamics
The eye-catching feature at the front of the GLB is the panel with illuminated Mercedes-Benz pattern, which reinterprets the classic chrome grille. Seamlessly integrated into its surroundings, this design element not only incorporates the large iconic Mercedes-Benz star. A total of 94 chrome-look stars form a distinctive pattern in the style of the brand. The illuminated radiator grille welcomes and bids farewell to the driver with various animations. Depending on country-specific legal regulations, the central star is also illuminated in whole or in part.
 
Passengers benefit from the larger dimensions, including more legroom in the rear. At the same time, the appearance is even more confident. Powerful SUV proportions with an upright front and steep windscreen, as well as short overhangs, characterise the side view. A wide track and flush-mounted wheels, which are available in sizes up to 20 inches, together with the muscular vehicle shoulders, give the GLB a powerful appearance. The compact exterior mirrors on the edge of the body and the flush door handles with KEYLESS GO (optional extra) blend harmoniously into the side profile. Surrounding wheel arch cladding and visual underride protection at the front and rear emphasise the SUV character. The pillared roof rails are typical of SUV functionality and accommodate optional roof luggage systems.
 
The clear, surface-oriented design and reduced lines contribute to a sporty and modern appearance. The muscular vehicle shoulders with their striking interplay of light and shadow emphasise the athletic character, while high-quality chrome trim elements underline the exclusivity of the vehicle.
 
Full-LED headlights, connected by a band of light, provide an emotional and striking appearance both day and night, as well as optimum illumination of the road. An innovative star design contributes to the unmistakable brand identity. With the optional MULTIBEAM LED headlights, the daytime running lights are designed in the shape of the Mercedes-Benz star. The standard LED high-performance headlights feature the star as a chrome-plated design element.
 
The star-design taillights are connected by a light strip that is fully illuminated in combination with the MULTIBEAM headlamps. The designers’ motivation was to emphasise the modernity and width of the rear end. The light strip can be animated with welcome and farewell scenarios. The number plate is integrated into the rear bumper.
 
The GLB can be extensively customised with the Progressive Line, AMG Line and AMG Line Plus equipment lines and the Night Package.
 
Switchable large panoramic roof with illuminated starry sky
The large panoramic roof sets a new standard in the segment. It creates an exceptionally generous and open feeling of space. To protect against solar radiation, it consists of heat-insulating laminated safety glass with an infrared-reflecting and a low-emissivity (LowE) coating on the inside. This reduces heating of the vehicle interior in summer. In winter, the LowE coating reduces heat loss by reflecting the interior heat back into the room. At approx. 200 nanometres, it is thinner than a human hair, which has a diameter of about 50,000 nanometres.
 
The SKY CONTROL panoramic roof is a new optional feature. The transparency of the glass can be changed segment by segment in 10 to 20 milliseconds. Passengers can choose between transparent for an unobstructed view upwards and opaque (milky) for more privacy. The opaque setting not only protects against prying eyes from outside but also offers improved glare protection in direct sunlight. It is operated via a corresponding menu in the vehicle settings on the central display, where a roof symbol with the segments is shown. The individual sections can be tapped and selected if a customised pattern is desired. Alternatively, there are three preset settings – “clear”, “opaque” and “motif”, the latter being a striped pattern.
 
As the icing on the cake, the large SKY CONTROL panoramic roof is even illuminated. It is connected to the ambient lighting and offers an illuminated starry sky. 158 stars are integrated into its glass surface, which can be illuminated in the individually selected colour of the ambient lighting. The light is fed in from the front via LED modules. The starry sky is almost invisible during the day. But in the dark, it surprises with a unique visual experience, especially for the rear passengers. It invites you to lean back and relax, and also attracts attention from the outside. In combination with the new light signature at the front and rear, the illuminated glass roof gives the GLB an unrivalled appearance.
 
Ultra-modern, elegant ambience
The previous sculptural design has been replaced by a minimalist concept with a focus on individual iconic high-tech elements. The design is reduced to the essentials and conveys an ultra-modern, elegant ambience.
 
The highlight of the interior is the optional, floating MBUX Superscreen, which extends across the entire interior width. Behind a large glass surface are the 26-centimetre (10.25-inch) driver display and the 35.6-centimetre (14-inch) central display, both with LCD technology. After market launch of the GLB, the MBUX Superscreen will be available as an optional extra with an additional 35.6-centimetre (14-inch display) for the front passenger. If no passenger display is installed, a trim element with a star pattern graphic continues the glass look in this area. In conjunction with ambient lighting, it is also available as a backlit version.
 
The round vents at the ends of the MBUX Superscreen have a sporty and futuristic look. Rings in Silver Shadow appear to float in front of a funnel-shaped moulding. A flat central vent with a high-tech appearance replaces the usual louvres. Another highlight are the doors, whose concave base recedes into the background. The generously dimensioned, floating door centre panels integrate an open storage compartment. The pull handle in a classic tubular profile has a linear yet powerful and sporty look.
 
The floating centre console rounds off the design. It elegantly connects to the MBUX Superscreen and offers a large, three-dimensional trim level that is available in various luxurious finishes. For the first time at Mercedes-Benz, the trim integrates an aesthetically shaped smartphone tray with wireless charging and cupholders.
 
The new steering wheel is designed to be even more ergonomic and intuitive to operate. By popular demand based on customer feedback, Mercedes-Benz has reintroduced the control concept with rockers for the limiter and DISTRONIC as well as a roller for volume control. The capacitive switch panels are seamlessly integrated and offer tactile aids for better orientation.
 
A world of modern colours and materials
An attractive and versatile range of colours and materials underlines Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to exceptional design and striking features. The selection includes, for example, the new Aquamint and Clear Blue Metallic paint colours and a new upholstery fabric with a technical-looking pearl effect in Black/Clean White Pearl. The trim elements are available in open-pore wood, brushed aluminium, an anodised-look coating and a decorative paper surface that is new to the automotive industry.
 
Greater range thanks to excellent aerodynamics
Aerodynamic performance plays a key role, especially in electric vehicles. Low air resistance ensures greater efficiency, which makes a noticeable difference – even a 0.01 reduction of the drag coefficient can increase the range on long journeys by around 2.5 percent. With a cd value of 0.28, the electric GLB achieves a very good value in its segment. Although its frontal area (A = 2.6 m²) is slightly larger than that of its predecessor, the air resistance, calculated as the product of the cd value and the frontal area, is lower. The aerodynamic component of driving resistance is therefore reduced.
 
The spread within the model series is small. In addition to the aerodynamically favourable dimensions, the most important measures include streamlined front and rear aprons, sealing of joints in the front area, an advantageous design of the A-pillars and exterior mirrors, a very smooth, almost completely closed underbody, aerodynamically optimised wheels and tyres, and adapted front and rear wheel spoilers.
 
Crucial to long-distance comfort: aeroacoustics
In aeroacoustic development, Mercedes-Benz always works on two tracks. On the one hand, as little noise as possible should be generated at the source, i.e., when the air flows around the vehicle’s outer skin with all attachments. As early as the early development phase of a new model, the engineering team therefore begins to design the geometry dimensions that are particularly relevant for this, for example on the A-pillars and the exterior mirrors. Artificial heads and directional microphones are used to locate the smallest weak points, which are then eliminated using the best possible technical solutions.
 
On the other hand, the quality of the sealing and sound insulation makes a decisive contribution to ensuring that unavoidable wind noises are no longer perceived or are not perceived as disturbing in the interior. A basic prerequisite for a low wind noise level in the interior is wind-tight door and window seals. In addition, the GLB is available with noise-insulating laminated glass on the front side windows.
 
Mercedes-Benz also specifically investigates the psychoacoustically relevant effects and the localisability of disturbing noises. Based on tests with test subjects, the company’s experts have even defined their own target index. Its weighted metrics cover the entire frequency spectrum of human hearing.
 
The measurements are usually carried out in the wind tunnel with so-called binaural artificial heads. There, the microphones sit in simulated ear canals, which allows for ear-accurate recordings. Depending on the phenomenon being investigated, the artificial heads sit in the driver’s position or take a seat on the other seats in the vehicle. The measurement results then provide a realistic indication of how loud or quiet, disturbing or pleasant the passengers perceive the noise in the interior.
 
Good visibility contributes to driving safety
At speeds of 80 km/h and above, aerodynamic details help to minimise soiling on the side windows and exterior mirror glass. Annoying trickles and increased accumulation of water droplets are avoided, making it easier to see the traffic environment.
 
MB.OS, MBUX, sound systems and ENERGIZING COMFORT
The GLB was developed to create moments of driving that focus on the experience and require no extra planning. The Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) transforms the SUV into an intelligent companion that thinks, learns and evolves with its driver. Just as the human brain orchestrates thoughts, senses and actions, MB.OS integrates and controls every aspect of the vehicle – from infotainment and automated driving to comfort and charging.
 

The MBUX Virtual Assistant: intelligent, easy to talk to and empathetic, like a friend
With generative AI, the new MBUX Virtual Assistant revolutionises the relationship between vehicle and driver. It is the next evolutionary step of the MBUX voice assistant and goes far beyond responding to commands. The MBUX Virtual Assistant enables complex, multi-turn dialogues – like you have with a friend – and has short-term memory. This is made possible by a so-called multi-agent approach. Depending on the context – i.e. whether navigation and POI-related questions or knowledge questions are asked – the system accesses different sources within the same conversation. Multiple agents from Microsoft and Google combine the knowledge gathered from the internet and respond to the query autonomously. Of course, customers are unaware of which agent is currently active in the background. The MBUX Virtual Assistant is also capable of retaining context, which means that users can continue conversations and retrieve information during their journey. The MBUX Virtual Assistant is activated either by saying ‘Hey Mercedes’ or, if travelling alone in the car, using the ‘just talk’ function without a keyword.
 
ChatGPT4o and Microsoft Bing Search act as agents in the area of knowledge. They can therefore answer questions such as: “Hey Mercedes, when does cherry blossom season start in Japan?” – “And when does it start in Germany?” Users can speak naturally without thinking about specific formulations. For instance, the virtual assistant can answer questions like “Hey Mercedes, what is a black hole? Explain it so that children can understand.”
 
Thanks to Google Gemini, the MBUX Virtual Assistant is also well-versed in navigation-related questions. The Automotive AI Agent from Google Cloud, developed with Gemini via Vertex AI, is specifically tailored to the automotive industry. It can access information from the Google Maps platform to provide users with detailed and personalised answers to questions about navigation, points of interest and more. For example, it can respond with suggestions to the question: “Hey Mercedes, I have a date today. Do you have any ideas for something special to do around here?” The third agent is the car expert. It is knowledgeable about questions relating to the car, so it can help with questions such as: “Can I charge my car at home using a power socket?”
 
The virtual assistant is always present on the Zero Layer as a “living” avatar in the form of the Mercedes star. In the default setting, it is blue or silvery blue with AMG Line. The colours in the avatar represent the emotions of the Virtual Assistant. For example, it reacts positively to “thank you” (green) or shows happiness when telling a joke (colourful). With various animations, the virtual assistant also signals whether it is currently speaking, listening or processing information. Movement, brightness, intensity and colour interact seamlessly to communicate intuitively with the driver.
 
In addition to the star avatar, there are two new representations of intelligence: the first is a human-like avatar, which emerges from a condensing cloud of stars. It embodies intelligence in a technologically futuristic way. The second new avatar, nicknamed LittleBenz, with its expressive face, allows for an even stronger connection on a personal level. Its lively form invites inspiring interaction.
 
Individual entertainment for the front passenger
On request, the new GLB offers the front passenger their own 14-inch screen for individual entertainment. The continuously growing app portfolio includes video streaming platforms such as Disney+. Disney+ is a popular streaming service that offers a wide range of films and series from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, 20th Century Studios, FX, Searchlight Pictures and National Geographic. Offering an unmatched collection of exclusive originals and an ever-growing library, Disney+ is available in the new GLB.
 
Also available are the video-streaming platform RIDEVU from Sony Pictures Entertainment and video games with a wide selection of triple-A titles via the cloud-gaming provider Boosteroid. To enjoy the best in-car gaming experience, customers can use their Bluetooth gaming controller. The gaming controller can be used with the passenger display even while driving. The central display can only be used for this when parked.
 
The passenger display screensaver can also be customised with personal images. Numerous safety precautions, such as eye-tracking technology, ensure that the driver is not distracted.
 
Music enjoyment with greater spatiality and depth
A Burmester® 3D surround sound system is optionally available. With Dolby Atmos, it enables an incomparable multidimensional music experience. This sound system comprises 16 loudspeakers and an 850-watt amplifier. For the first time, the covers of the tweeters and mid-range speakers are finished in silver chrome, further enhancing the interior’s appearance.
 
With the Burmester® 3D premium surround sound system, Mercedes-Benz has recreated the spacious feel of a larger vehicle in favour of immersive 3D sound. Together with experts from the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology (IDMT) in Ilmenau and from Burmester, the team has optimised the room acoustics. Spatial Sound Wave is the name of the IDMT algorithm that gives the overall sound significantly more spatiality and depth.
 
In the MBUX sound menu, customers can vary the spatiality themselves in 10 stages using a slider under the “3D Sound” menu item. The symbolic representation is particularly striking: a circle floats above the stylised interior in the form of an aura. The more spatiality is selected for the 3D sound, the larger the inner circle becomes.
 
Automatic seat recognition for focused sound
Not only in terms of 3D sound, but also overall, the Burmester® premium sound system has been significantly improved compared to its predecessor. Among other things, it features additional three-way speakers in the doors, a coaxial centre speaker in the instrument panel and 3D speakers in the roof control unit area. The premium sound system enables additional functions such as the “Dolby Atmos” immersive sound experience and “Personalised Sound”.
 
Another feature that parents, among others, will appreciate is the intelligent way in which audio can be prevented from being played continuously at all seats during holiday trips. Customers can now direct the audio content exclusively to their children’s second seat row (sound-zone setting), while they themselves can enjoy maximum peace and quiet in the other rows of seats.
 
Furthermore, the sound image can also be optimised specifically for the driver’s seat or both rows of seats (focused setting). A new feature here is auto-selection: the system uses seat-belt detection to determine how many occupants are on board and adjusts the sound focus accordingly. Auto-selection is automatically activated in default mode.
 
The standard sound system has also been upgraded with an additional centre speaker. New functions such as the sound zone described above and two-stage adjustable bass characteristics have also been added. This means that the new spatiality can now also be experienced in a reduced form in the standard sound system for the first time.
 
Arrive more relaxed: ENERGIZING COMFORT
Soothing sounds, activating light – with the diverse ENERGIZING COMFORT programmes and the individual recommendations of the ENERGIZING COACH, Mercedes-Benz offers an extensive wellness programme in the GLB. Commuting distances, traffic jams or waiting times are seamlessly transformed into unique moments of mental and physical recovery.
 
Additionally, the user interface and user experience have been revamped to ensure even more intuitive and user-friendly interaction. The newly designed ENERGIZING COMFORT programmes now appear as a dedicated app in the app grid and give users the option to deactivate the ENERGIZING sounds, allowing them to enjoy the programmes alongside their own music or podcasts.
 
ENERGIZING seat kinetics support the body’s musculature with gentle movements in the tilt of the seat cushion and backrest. This function is available in higher specification levels in conjunction with electrically adjustable seats featuring the memory function.
 
Holistic “SoundExperience”
Under the name “SoundExperience,” Mercedes-Benz offers a holistic world of sound. Various soundscapes allow for individual acoustic setups. The SoundExperience can be conveniently selected as an app in the app view. The range includes “Silver Waves,” “Vivid Flux,” “Serene Breeze” and “Roaring Pulse” (AMG Line) as well as two new soundscapes:
– “Fractal Fusion” embodies a hedonistic, futuristic lifestyle, combining nostalgic sounds from 80s arcade games and synthwave music with modern, vibrant synthesiser textures.
– “Granular Fuzz” offers an expressive, organic style that emphasises simplicity and straightforwardness. This sound combines fat guitar tones, epic orchestral soundtrack elements and post-apocalyptic electronic effects.
 
The SoundExperience can already be heard while stationary: the start-up, shutdown and welcome sounds in the interior change themselves. Locking and unlocking are accompanied by a specific sound and the Aura soundscape. There is also a charging plug sound that confirms that the vehicle is correctly connected to and disconnected from the charging station. Once the vehicle is ready to go, simulated revs can be generated while stationary using the accelerator pedal.
 
The SoundExperience is available in all electric GLB models, regardless of the performance level and audio system. The AVAS pedestrian warning tone can be set to two levels: discreet and distinctive. Instead of the conventional beeping warning tone when reversing, the electric SUV uses an optimised driving sound.
 
MBUX Surround Navigation: seamless integration of assistance and route guidance
Integrated visual communication also reaches a new dimension with MBUX Surround Navigation. Thanks to the deeply integrated architecture of MB.OS, the advanced navigation system shows a real-time view of the vehicle and its surroundings. The system seamlessly combines the driving assistance view with a 3D representation of the surroundings and route guidance on the driver display. It shows other road users such as cars, bicycles, motorcycles and pedestrians. The integration of information into the driver display using 3D game engine graphics provides an extremely intuitive overview.
 
Drivers benefit from improved situational awareness as they see what the GLB sees and how the assistance systems are supporting them. The display of route guidance in an environmental representation is particularly helpful in busy urban traffic. Customers can see early on what lies ahead, for example such as behind the next turn. Buildings and other infrastructure are easily and quickly recognisable. The system also provides an integrated overview of vehicle status through real-time virtual-reality visualisation, including the illumination of indicators, high and low beams. Acceleration and deceleration are visualised by the adjusted speed of the wheels.
 
Intelligent navigation you can trust, with tailormade route guidance from Google Maps
In the new GLB, the navigation experience is based on Google Maps. The unique navigation system offers Mercedes-Benz customers the best of both worlds: core services from Google Maps as a recognised benchmark and the trusted user interface from Mercedes-Benz. This offers the familiar Mercedes-Benz services for charging and parking. The navigation solution in the GLB, developed in partnership by Google and Mercedes-Benz, is one of the first systems to integrate Google Cloud’s new Automotive AI Agent for in-vehicle use with Google Maps.
 
Mercedes-Benz Navigation with Electric Intelligence plans the fastest and most convenient route, including charging stops, based on numerous factors. It dynamically responds to traffic jams or changes in driving style. Mercedes-Benz is continuously developing the energy forecast for Navigation with Electric Intelligence. In the future, predicted wind conditions along the road will be considered even more accurately based on the vehicle’s height.
 
To work out the route, the system calculates energy demand. It takes into consideration topography, route profile, ambient temperature, speed, heating and cooling needs. Other factors include the traffic situation on the planned route and the available charging stations, their charging capacity and payment functions. The calculation takes place in the cloud and is combined with onboard data.
 
The intelligent navigation recognises when a charging stop is necessary and plans it automatically to optimise overall travel time. Sometimes, two short charging stops with higher charging capacity may be more beneficial than one longer stop. Additionally, the vehicle’s charging settings are automatically adjusted by Navigation with Electric Intelligence and optimised for fast charging along the route. This includes preconditioning the high-voltage battery to ensure it is at the optimum temperature for high-speed DC charging at the right time. The system also provides energy-saving tips.
 
Mercedes-Benz is the first automaker to introduce an integrated reservation function for charging stations. Starting in Germany and the U.S., Mercedes-Benz customers can exclusively use the MB.CHARGE Public integrated charging service to reserve a charging point in advance at the company’s own Mercedes-Benz charging parks. When route guidance using Navigation with Electric Intelligence is active, the vehicle automatically makes the reservation 15 minutes before reaching the charging station. For drivers, the reservation function saves time spent waiting and provides them the assurance of an available charging spot.
 
KEYLESS-GO now with automatic unlocking and locking
The new GLB is available with the optional KEYLESS-GO feature. In the latest generation of this access system, and depending on market availability, the vehicle automatically locks or unlocks when the user with the vehicle key approaches or moves away. This feature can also be deactivated via the head unit if desired. Additionally, KEYLESS-GO is optionally available with HANDS-FREE ACCESS, allowing automatic opening and closing of the boot via a kicking motion under the rear bumper.
