Meet the 1992 Mojave Silver Wolf Convertible. The vehicle started out in life 32 years ago as a military Mercedes-Benz 250GD. After 2,300 hours of restoration work, this is what came out.
A blend of luxury and ruggedness, the Mojave Silver Wolf V5 is one of the over 150 250GDs that the Expedition Motor Company (EMC) built over seven years. Specialized in transforming former military G-Wagens into luxury vehicles, EMC keeps the old-school driving experience but makes it comfortable and safe.
The firm’s latest creation is a thoroughly restored 1992 Mojave Silver G-Class with a Doppio interior. The vehicle is set in motion by Mercedes’ “million-mile engine,” the OM602 diesel power plant, which the German automaker built between 1992 and 2002.
The engine came with a reputation: it could drive for up to one million miles (1,610,000 kilometers), being considered one of the most reliable that have ever seen the light of day.
EMC founder Alex Levin says their latest creation will feel just as at home cruising a highway along the beach as it does traversing an off-road trail.
Comfort on the road, limitless capability off the road
The name of the model comes from its silver paintwork, the Mojave Silver, which has always been one of the most popular in the lineup. The shade and designation are inspired by the Mojave Desert, known for its extreme conditions and rough terrain. That is what vehicles like the 250GD G-Wagen were designed for in the first place.
The Mojave Silver boxy body of the 1992 off-roader, which hasn’t changed much since its debut, shelters a luxury interior with a weatherproof upholstery. Customers can go for either the bikini top or the full soft top.
The restoration of the 32-year-old G-Class took 2,300 hours. The experts paid attention to every detail, working with precision down to the nuts and bolts to create an impeccable retro-styled modern vehicle.
Work began by stripping the vehicle down to bare metal so that the specialists could hand-mend every single imperfection that age or combat missions left on it. The team media-blasted the frame and treated it with anti-corrosive primer, before applying a durable powder coat finish.

The Movaje Silver Wolf got a revamped braking system
The Expedition Motor Company technicians replaced the original fuel lines and body mounts, making sure that the off-roader would last for decades more. They completely revamped the brake system and came up with a custom-designed and fine-tuned suspension.
The OM602 diesel engine has been rebuilt, and so has the five-speed 72 automatic transmission, as the team tried to make them operate smoothly at contemporary standards.
Those who want to take on the streets and the off-road in a Mojave Silver Wolf can contact Expedition Motor Company and order one for a starting price of $204,150.
