Mercedes G-Wagen has become a status symbol in most parts of the world. This applies particularly to the latest generation, which has been in production at Magna Steyr’s factory in Graz, Austria, for over six years, albeit with a recent mid-cycle refresh.
Needless to say, we have covered countless examples of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Mercedes-AMG G 63 over the years, and most of them had a few aftermarket touches or at least an uber-cool OEM specification. The model you can see in the gallery above boasts numerous modifications to the point where it’s no longer an SUV but a veritable pickup truck.
You may know it as the 900 XLP, as that’s what Brabus, aka the company that has created it, calls it. It rocks its Adventure XLP bodywork conversion, a 20-inch (500 mm) frame extension complete with reinforcements, an open bed with carbon fiber side walls and an 8-inch (205 mm) overhang, a storage compartment for the loading area on the right, a black rollbar, and several other goodies.
Brabus also signed the multiple exterior attachments, including the custom roof rack with extra lights, tweaked grille, new hood, front and rear add-ons, fender flares, and so on. Most aftermarket components were made of carbon fiber. This heavily modified Mercedes-AMG G 63 is significantly wider than the stock one, has new exhaust trim, multiple Brabus logos, and 9.5×22-inch wheels wrapped in 325/55 Pirelli Scorpion ATR 116H mud and snow tires.
Did you think that this is where the off-roading enhancements have ended? Not so fast, as besides the extra lights and chunky rubber, the Brabus 900 XLP also gets a winch with a tractive force of pounds (4.5 tons), complete with a remote control. The monstrous truck also benefits from front and rear portal axles, special suspension, and underbody protection for the engine, gearbox, and fuel tank so that its future owner can enjoy it off the lit path without having to worry about damaging some critical components.
The interior features multiple enhancements, too. Brabus signed the new black upholstery that sports special embossing and gave it red trim on various elements, from the steering wheel, center console, air vents, and door cards to the pedal covers. Brabus’ 900 XLP comes with additional carbon fiber trim for a racier stance, and the electric running boards improve ingress and egress.
While the XLP part of its name refers to the bodywork conversion, the 900 stands for its output in European horsepower. Brabus spent a lot of time refining the vehicle’s bi-turbo V8, and its displacement has increased from 4.0 to 4.4 liters, a number that would probably raise a few eyebrows among BMW fans. The upgraded engine benefits from forged pistons, special connecting rods, a balanced crankshaft made from “solid material,” new turbos, downpipes, an ECU remap, and others. The result is 887 horsepower (900 ps/662 kW), up from the standard model’s 577 hp (585 ps/430 kW). The thrust has gone up from 627 pound-foot (850 Nm) to 922 lb-ft (1,250 Nm). The torque was limited to 774 pound-foot (1,050 Nm) to preserve the internals.
Are you curious how fast this Mercedes-AMG G 63 is in a straight line? That would be 4.4 seconds, Brabus reveals, or a tenth quicker than the stock Affalterbach-infused G-Wagen. The top speed is 130 mph or 210 kph, and this model returns the equivalent of 15.2 US mpg (15.5 l/100 km) combined and emits 353 g/km of CO2. However, its future owner probably won’t care how much this rare pickup truck drinks, as they have to be loaded to afford it.
That’s right, the Brabus 900 XLP you see here is offered for sale, and it’s one of ten copies that exist in this configuration. This, combined with the extensive amount of work that went into it, from the pickup conversion and widebody kit to the custom interior and extra oomph, has turned it into a ride that makes any modern-day Rolls-Royce vehicle look affordable by comparison. It’s an almost-new ride, with only 2,097 miles (3,375 km) under its belt, and it’s ready to hit the road and explore the great outdoors in the possession of its future owner.
We found the ad here, on Brabus’ official website, and this modified Mercedes-AMG G 63 sat in a sea of Brabus-signed vehicles, standing out for all the right reasons. But how much do you think one has to cough out to enjoy this particular 900 XLP? You already suspect the answer, as this is one ultra-pricey cookie. This Brabus 900 XLP is listed for grabs with a sticker price of €830,968.67 attached to it, which comes out to over $915,000 at today’s exchange rates. I’d probably pay a bit more for the previous-gen 6×6 if I was shopping for a special G-Wagen, but I certainly won’t judge anyone who’s interested in this build. Would you?
