An extreme off-road vehicle with a distinctive customization package, an optical W463A facelift kit, a single seater rear entertainment adjustment with lighting doors. With that MANSORY GRONOS based on the Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6 this struggle reached a whole different level. MANSORY manufactured new complements to enhance the armor of this unmistakable giant.
In stock form, or with the occasional touch from Brabus or other decent tuners, the Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6×6 is one of the coolest six-wheel drive beasts. However, Mansory decided it needed to step over the OTT line. Thus, meet their Gronos proposal.
In plain Mansory fashion, it features some exterior add-ons that some (including us) may consider cool. The new logos, which replaced the three-pointed star emblems, are at the opposite end of the spectrum. We can’t say we’re fans of the teal accents here and there, but they were an unfortunately necessary asset to tie the exterior from the pure brash cockpit.
The quoted tuner has gone all-in on this Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6×6’s cockpit. It can give you a minty breath just from looking at it, as the teal leather upholstery with the occasional diamond stitching dominates the entire cabin. It can be seen on the individual front and rear seats, armrests, door cards, pillars, headliner, dashboard panel, center console, and so on.
Mansory’s logo is visible on the steering wheel, seatbelts, and other parts of the interior, which has started showing its age. Hey, after all, the G 63 AMG 6×6 came out during the previous generation G-Wagen before Mercedes absorbed the Affalterbach brand. Still, with a little work, it can look better than the new one, as we still don’t dig the cheap-looking dual-screen setup.
It is unknown if the controversial tuner left its mark on the powertrain, but this model was already punchy even without any modifications in this department. At a hard push of the throttle, the 5.5L twin-turbocharged V8 chewed through revs, unleashing 536 horsepower (544 ps/400 kW) and 561 pound-foot (761 Nm) of torque.
A 7-speed auto ‘box delivers everything to the six wheels, and if you’re curious about the 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) acceleration, then you obviously forgot that this is a very heavy machine that’s shaped like a brick. It can deal with it in around eight seconds in stock form and will eventually reach 100 mph (160 kph), as that is its electronically limited top speed.
Say whatever you want about the Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6×6, but it’s far from being a dragster in disguise. It’s more of a mall crawler that can still turn heads wherever it goes, and given the limited availability, extra axle, and other modifications, it is a seven-digit affair in today’s used car market. The same applies to Mansory’s Gronos, even if it is one of the ugliest copies out there, as everything this tuner touches tends to cost its weight in gold.
But would you ever get a G 63 AMG 6×6 if money suddenly became the least of your concerns?
