Family-oriented businessmen will soon be able to order a brand-new car: the Mercedes E-Class limousine. This machine was recently snapped testing in the open, and it’s pure madness on wheels.
The vehicle appears to be the work of Binz. No, it’s not Benz, as we’re talking about the company specialized in modifying all kinds of Mercedes models into government cars, ambulances, command vehicles, hearses, and even armored cars.
As it was clear from the scoops, the Mercedes E-Class-based limousine has been stretched beyond words, likely adding over three feet (~1 m) between the axles. This required extra reinforcement and has opened up a whole bunch of space behind the first row of seats. Reports indicate that this ride might be more family-oriented by featuring three rows of seats, because everyone wants a long executive sedan instead of a normal GLS SUV, right?
It is worth noting that the limousine in question has traditional door handles on the new set of doors, whereas the front and rear ones stick to the flush-mounted recipe of the regular E-Class. Another interesting aspect is related to the E 200 badging on the trunk. Anyone who knows a thing or two about the three-pointed star brand’s naming scheme is aware that this logo is reserved for four-pot models, which is very strange, given that the limo weighs as much as a small shed.
Thus, power is likely supplied by a four-banger with a 2.0-liter displacement. This engine develops 236 pound-foot (320 Nm) of torque and 201 horsepower (204 ps/150 kW) on the standard sedan. This model needs a respectable seven and a half seconds from 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) and has a top speed of 149 miles an hour (240 kph). Given the extra weight, the six-door variant will be a heck of a lot slower, assuming that it packs this lump in the aforementioned configuration.
The pre-production car snapped a couple of weeks ago while on the move has become the subject of a few renderings. The digital illustrations you see above came from the peeps at Kolesa and preview the upcoming production model. The car features familiar front and rear ends and comes with two more doors that feature flush-mounted handles this time around. It rides on different wheels sourced from Mercedes’ portfolio and has a silver look with black and chrome trim.
We expect this six-door version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (we almost wrote S-Class instead) to premiere later this year, and it will be interesting to learn more about it, including the powertrain, and see the interior for the first time. But is this something you’d consider buying if you were shopping for a limo? Drop a line below and tell us all about it.
