HWA’s first Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo II restomod will be auctioned off at RM Sotheby’s Tegernsee Auction on July 27.

Details about the wild restomod were first announced last year. Each of the 100 units bound for production will be around an original W201 Mercedes-Benz that’s been thoroughly upgraded in every conceivable way. The car heading to auction is the first of the lot, chassis 000.

While photos of the finished car have yet to be published online, HWA says its build process will be documented and the winning bidder will receive signed copies of important documents. Chassis 000 will also serve as the blueprint for all other Evo II restomods being built.

The original 190E 2.5-16 Evo II left the factory with a 2.6-liter four-cylinder producing 232 hp. HWA’s version is expected to use a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 with 444 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) in standard guise but can be upgraded to 493 hp. This engine will be mounted behind the front axle and the car will have a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Coupled with the V6 is a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.

HWA’s wild 190E should have double wishbones at each corner and will come with massive brakes, including 380 mm (15-inch) front discs and 360 mm (14.2-inch) discs at the rear. The car will be fairly light by modern standards, tipping the scales at around 2,976 lbs or 1,350 kg. This overall weight and the punchy turbo V6 should make it quite a weapon.

As you would expect from a restomodded recreation of the 190E Evo II, each example will feature a finger-licking widebody kit, giving the small Merc incredible presence. HWA has also developed modern new LED headlights and taillights, to complete the transformation.

The restomod’s starting price is €714,000 (about $776,000 at current exchange rates). If you’re interested in bidding on the car, visit RM Sotheby’s website closer to the auction date.
