Mansory has tuned yet another Mercedes-AMG G 63, and it’s not your run-off-the-mill proposal featuring the usual exterior add-ons, interior enhancements, and a bit more power. No sir (or ma’am), as what we have here is a coupe version of the mighty 4×4 with rear-hinged doors.
 
The Gronos Coupe Evo C was first released almost two years ago. Since then, we have had the chance to see more of it via the tuner’s social media channels, and more recently, we stumbled upon car #1 of 8, which is depicted in the video below and the photo gallery above.
 

The first thing that stands out is the modified exterior with two instead of four doors (or five if you count the rear one), reshaped rear fenders, larger three-quarter windows, and rear-hinged doors for a suicidal approach. The vehicle also features fold-out side steps, fender extensions, a new hood, front and rear bumper add-ons, a new grille, a large rear wing, fresh wheels, and a custom paint finish that doesn’t look half bad.
 
You cannot go wrong by mixing black and gold on most things, anyway, and it’s the revised look of the interior. The Mansory Gronos Coupe Evo C features lots of black Alcantara in the cockpit, with several gold accents providing contrast. It’s a four-seater with two individual captain’s chairs at the back, separated by a large console, and comes with the usual custom embossing and embedding. For a more premium flair, it also gets a starlight headliner.
 
This pre-facelifted Mercedes-AMG G 63 had 627 pound-feet (850 Nm) of torque and 577 hp (585 ps/430 kW) to play with before it paid a visit to Mansory. The 4.0L bi-turbo V8 enabled 0-62 mph (100 kph) in 4.5 seconds and it took 12.5 seconds to complete the quarter-mile sprint at almost 110 mph (177 kph), which is not bad at all for a brick, albeit a very good-looking one (in stock form).
 

With the help of the controversial tuner, the ubiquitous V8 lump was massaged to deliver much more than the standard AMG G-Wagen. Mansory mentions 966 hp (980 ps/721 kW) and 922 pound-feet (1,250 Nm) of torque, claiming that its Gronos Coupe Evo C can reach 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds before running out of breath at 174 mph (280 kph). That’s a bit more than the company’s original announcement when it revealed 887 hp (900 ps/662 kW) and 885 lb-ft (1,200 Nm).
 
So, if you had all the money in the world, would you opt for a Mansory-tuned Mercedes-AMG G 63 with two doors that feature rear hinges instead of a stock G-Wagen, preferably with not that many aftermarket goodies? I’d certainly pick a standard G 63 all day, any day, over a tuned one and would do absolutely nothing to it other than perhaps change the wheels.
