Mercedes-Maybach expands its product portfolio with the new 2026 Mercedes Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series – the sportiest model in Maybach brand history. The open-top two-seater combines a dynamic driving experience with intrinsic qualities of Mercedes Maybach vehicles: skilled craftsmanship, highest quality materials and exquisite details. Arriving at U.S. dealerships in later in 2025, the Mercedes-Maybach SL offers a holistic sensory experience in line with the brand philosophy. Four drive programs, “Comfort,” “Maybach,” “Sport” and “Individual,” provide a wide range of driving experiences. In the Comfort and Maybach programs, softer accelerator pedal calibration offers a smoother and more refined response to driver inputs. The 577-hp V8 4.0 liter biturbo engine and smooth-shifting 9G TRONIC automatic transmission ensure dynamic driving pleasure at the Maybach level. 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive and an electronically controlled locking rear differential provide outstanding traction and driving safety, even in slippery road conditions. Standard rear-axle steering contributes to the vehicle’s precise and stable handling.
Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series – The Most Luxurious Roadster
We never thought Mercedes-Maybach could go small with a roadster, but here we are, looking at the first-ever SL 680 Monogram Series.
Truth be told, it is not fresh out of the oven, as the German car manufacturer unveiled it last summer. More recently, they dropped a new press release and a few extra pictures of it, and now we get to see it in a short video that puts the spotlight on its curves and exclusive amenities.
Although not as vibrant as the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet Concept unveiled back in 2017, the new Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series should help boost the luxury sub-brand’s sales. It features some exclusive Maybach touches on the outside, including the bespoke grille, and stands out more on the inside.
Helping it differentiate from the rest of the modern-day (AMG) SL family are the usual luxury amenities on the inside. Crystal-white Nappa leather upholstery is on deck, which likely won’t look that good after a couple of years, as well as dedicated start-up animations and graphics for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system.
The ‘680’ in its name might trick some into thinking that it comes with a V12 engine. After all, that is the designation of the range-topping Mercedes-Maybach S-Class (S 680). This model uses a handcrafted 6.0L bi-turbo V12, which is good for 621 bhp (630 ps/463 kW) at 5,250-5,500 rpm and 664 pound-feet (900 Nm) at 2,000-4,000 rpm, dealing with 0-60 mph (97 kph) in four and a half seconds.
However, it does not feature a twelve-cylinder motor under the hood, as it packs a familiar V8 instead, albeit with softer engine mounts. The 4.0-liter bi-turbo mill is the same one that powers the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 and produces 577 bhp (585 ps/430 kW) and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) of torque. The engine drives all four wheels via the familiar 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The AMG reaches 62 mph (100 kph) in 3.6s and tops out at 196 mph (315 kph).
As you can expect from a Maybach-branded roadster with sporty credentials, the first-ever 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series costs a lot of money. In its homeland of Germany, this open-top machine is priced at €257,210, which comes out to nearly $290,000 at the current exchange rate. By comparison, the normal Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4Matic is available from €196,141.75 ($218,470) in Germany. The latter comes with an MSRP of $187,150 (equaling €168,000) in the U.S. of A.
Now, we have promised you a short video showcasing the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, and it is time to invite you to click the play button and watch it. The footage is only a little over two minutes long, so you don’t need to take a long break from whatever it is that you are doing.
