The one and only Sir Lewis Hamilton might be about to depart from the Mercedes-AMG F1 team, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t time for one last special edition to celebrate the F1 champ and his time in their cars. A German tuner called Hof has just revealed a Mercedes-AMG G-Class called the Sir Class. It’s the fastest G-Class ever made, and it is a rather obvious tribute to Lewis and his time in the Silver Arrows team.
Hof Nearly Doubles G63 Horsepower
Hof started the Sir Class with a Mercedes-AMG G63. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 has been tweaked from the 577 horsepower it had when it left the factory to make nearly double that figure -this AMG now produces a massive 1,063 hp and 959 lb-ft of torque. Hof claims it can go from 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds and that the brick-shaped Benz can punch a hole through the air all the way to 186 mph flat out, making it the fastest G and one of the fastest SUVs in the world.
The SUV features a Hof carbon fiber body kit. The composite is used for new wheel arches, side skirts, and front and rear fascias. There is also a vented carbon hood, just in case the rest of the visual statement wasn’t loud enough.
Hof has added performance elements to the SUV to handle the extra power and speed. It has a massive carbon-ceramic brake system to get it stopped. The chassis is about 1.25 inches lower than stock as well, which should contribute to handling and make the hole in the air a bit smaller to reach that top speed.
The Sir Class name has two meanings. It refers to Lewis Hamilton’s knighthood. It’s also a reference to Still I Rise, a phrase Hamilton uses to help motivate him to overcome failures and challenges and to keep a positive attitude every day (not that such an attitude has been on display much this year, but let’s gloss over that).
Black And Green Interior Includes Track Map On The Ceiling
Hof’s silver paint transitions from silver to black, just like the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 cars. Hof calls it the 1063 special finish, and it also has Tiffany Green accents like the F1 cars.
Those green accents are on the wheel trims and 1063 badges on the front and rear. They’re also inside the SUV, where the Sir Class has green accents in the vents and in special stitching on the doors. And of course, there are green LED ambient lights inside.
Look up and there’s even more green. A graphic of the Yas Marina F1 circuit is stitched into the headliner. The Abu Dhabi track is where the Hof Sir Class was revealed. It will also be the site of Hamilton’s last race with Mercedes-AMG before moving to Ferrari. Hamilton has won there five times before, but it was also the site of one of his worst heartbreaks. A controversial ruling by race officials allowed Max Verstappen to make the most of his brand-new soft tires and win the 2021 F1 World Championship.
With everything that’s going on in this SUV, it’s easy to miss what might be the strangest feature. The Sir Class has an F1-style butterfly steering wheel, not unlike in the F1-inspired AMG ONE. It’s made from carbon fiber and other materials, and it will probably make parking this G a bit of a headache.
Hof is only building 11 copies of the Sir Class G-Wagen, a nod to his 11 years with the SIlver Arrows. The price tag starts at an Abu Dhabi-friendly $690,000.
