New Mercedes-AMG GT Sedan renderings based on the latest spy shots and teasers. It will be fully electric and will get three electric motors with 1000+ hp combined. Is it better than the old one?
Sometime during the summer, Mercedes-Benz and its performance-oriented subsidiary Mercedes-AMG will reveal the successor of the hulking Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. Hopefully, it will have a new name, a simpler one.
The German executive car produced at home in Sindelfingen from 2018 to 2023 and then under license in Finland by Valmet Automotive in Uusikaupunki is a five-door liftback, despite the name, adding to the confusion. It’s marketed as the sedan option if you want the qualities of the AMG GT two-door coupe but with space for the boss in the rear.
It’s not necessarily an old car – it was launched in 2018 for the 2019 model year, but since it represents the old guard and the Mercedes-AMG SL and GT are brand-new already, it feels like a relic already. No worries, as the rumor mill and the automaker have pointed numerous times to its upcoming replacement, which has been spied on countless occasions and even revealed online by the company still wearing full camouflage.
Now it’s time for the rumor mill to work in conjunction with a member of the imaginative guild of digital car content creators dwelling across the parallel universes of vehicular CGI – the good folks at Kolesa, along with their resident pixel master Nikita Chuicko, aka kelsonik on social media, have imagined the new Mercedes-AMG super-sedan. According to reports and official data, this model will mark a big departure from the current Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe.
Not only because it will have a new moniker but also because it abandons the turbo inline-six and the 4.0-liter M177 bi-turbo V8 to upgrade the PHEV setup to a fully electric one that will sit above the current 63 S E Performance variant. As far as we can tell, the folks at Kolesa and the pixel master haven’t completely abandoned the liftback design but left the door open for a traditional trunk element.
According to the attached rendering, which depicts the unofficial, hypothetical design project, Mercedes will take the signature tree-pointed star logo into new directions by using it as part of the front LED daylight running lights, but it will keep the connection to the old ICE-powered car with the silhouette of a very long, large car featuring flush door handles and a coupe-like roof along with massive alloy wheels.
While the headlights of the teased camouflage prototype look like they’re using the production-ready daytime running lights, it’s still hard to tell if the very small round LED rear lights are the real ones or clever decoys, so take the rendering’s back POV with a bigger pinch of salt than the rest of the Mercedes-AMG sedan. As for power, we already know it will feature a three-motor setup with more than 1,000 combined horsepower.
