2025 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Shows Its New Starry Eyes

Mercedes is not yet ready to launch the fourth-gen GLS. It’s probably waiting to see if it would be a good idea to keep it stuck to the ICE recipe or launch it solely with EV power—or perhaps a mix of both. Thus, it is readying a second mid-cycle refresh of its flagship crossover.

The upcoming model is believed to be due late next year and will probably be a 2026 model year in the New World. Spy shots and realistic renderings have revealed the novelties, like those star-infused headlights that look great on any modern-day Mercedes, new bumpers at both ends, revised rear lighting units, and perhaps a few tweaks on the inside.

Not only the regular Mercedes-Benz GLS is undergoing a second facelift, but also the Maybach model, the German car marque’s alternative to the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 sporty variant is also in for another mid-cycle refresh and will mirror the looks of the standard Benz model up to a point.

The 2026 (or is that 2027?) Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 is currently undergoing testing, and once it starts shedding its fake skin (camouflage), it will probably look a lot like these renderings that Kolesa signed. Compared to the current GLS 63, the upcoming one will have a wider front grille that will directly touch the new headlights. The main clusters have a star-like daytime running light signature. Further down, it gets a new bumper with revised air intakes.

We expect to see more stars incorporated into the rear lighting units, albeit with a different pattern. The tailgate will still host the recess for the license plate holder. The rear bumper should also be new, like the diffuser that will still feature cutouts for the quad exhaust tips on each side of the four fins. It is possible that this model will also get new exterior color options and additional (or fresh) wheels, and the AMG logos will round off the design.

With its dual-screen layout, the current Mercedes-AMG GLS 63’s cockpit is already modern. However, the German company will probably pay extra care to the two displays. It’s also possible that the air vents, steering wheel, and center console might be part of the revisions, alongside the trim and upholstery, though that’s our two cents and should be taken accordingly.

The 4.0L bi-turbo V8 engine should carry over with minimal to no intervention. In the current GLS 63, it’s good for 603 hp (612 ps/450 kW) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. The model tops out at up to 174 mph (280 kph) and needs 4.2 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 kph). We should find out more about the 2026 GLS 63 in the coming weeks/months once the testing phase advances. However, for the most part, it should look about the same as the one in these renderings.
