2025 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Get Smarter & Safer

Mercedes-Benz has announced revisions for the MY2025 Sprinter and eSprinter lineups, with the German commercial vehicles receiving numerous updates, additional standard features, and more configurations for customers to choose from. The big news is the arrival of a smaller-capacity battery for the eSprinter. Buyers seeking an electric delivery van no longer have to opt for the model with a 113 kWh battery, 170-inch wheelbase, and high-roof configuration.
 
For 2025, the eSprinter is available with an 81 kWh battery that can be paired with different wheelbases and roof heights. On the WLTP cycle, Mercedes claims the eSprinter has a range of 204 miles, so expect lower figures when the EPA numbers are announced. The 113 kWh version increases this to (a WLTP-estimated) 297 miles.
 

Power, Charging, And Payload
A Standard Output model produces 134 horsepower, while the High Output variant offers 201 hp. Both versions produce a respectable 295 lb-ft of torque. Neither model is as powerful as the Ram ProMaster EV, which boasts 268 hp and 302 lb-ft. Mercedes notes that the 81 kWh battery is also capable of AC and DC charging and can charge from 10-80% in just over 30 minutes. The maximum charging speed is pegged at 115 kW.
 
What the smaller battery lacks in range, it makes up for in other areas. The automaker says the 81 kWh pack makes for more practical configurations. Want the maximum payload? Pair the new battery with a 144-inch wheelbase and standard roof for a payload of 3,516 lbs and 319 cubic feet of packing space.
 
If cargo room is more important, the 81 kWh battery, 170-inch wheelbase, and high roof combo provide 488 cubic feet and a payload of 3,120 lbs. That’s nearly 500 lbs more than a similarly configured eSprinter with the 113 kWh pack.
 
Adaptable Sprinter Receives No Powertrain Upgrades
With the last gasoline-powered Sprinter discontinued in 2023, all ICE variants now receive diesel engines. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor is available in two states of tune: 168 and 208 hp. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard across the lineup, but all-wheel drive is not (rear-wheel drive is standard).
 
Highly adaptable, Mercedes-Benz says more than 75% of commercial Sprinters are converted into “industry-specific” vans for use as courier vehicles, ambulances, refrigerated vans, and even camper vans. We’ve even seen the Sprinter transformed into a PlayStation on wheels. Customers will be pleased to know the 2025 Sprinter and eSprinter gain enhanced standard and optional equipment.
 
More Standard Features And Optional Packages
A new multifunction steering wheel with capacitive sensors is now standard, along with a rain sensor, entry handles for the front doors, and a tire pressure monitoring system for models with dual rear wheels. Crew and passenger models receive passive child detection to prevent young occupants from being left behind.
 
Moving on to the optional equipment, Sprinter passenger models can be specified with the Select line. The package includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, LED headlights with adaptive high-beam assist, a comfort driver’s seat, and an overhead control unit.For chillier climates, the Winter Package Plus adds a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and a wet wiper system. There’s also a Drive Assist Package, which includes several driver assists and a 360-degree camera. A digital rearview mirror is also optional.
 
Enhanced MBUX Functionality
The Sprinter and eSprinter are available with the latest MBUX interface, including a 10.25-inch display screen. This, says Mercedes, has been improved with faster computing power and more intuitive controls. The voice assistant is more user-friendly than before and can recognize and perform some functions without the “Hey, Mercedes” prompt. The system can identify which seat the command is coming from and can perform the function flawlessly (by switching on the correct heated seat, for example). Elsewhere, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are finally wireless, while over-the-air updates allow new features to be added during the van’s lifespan.
 
A useful MBUX feature is the display of free space behind the vehicle. Using the rearview camera, the driver can see whether sufficient space exists to unload cargo from the back. This can be programmed according to the cargo size, making things easier for delivery drivers who are often pressed for time. Through the Mercedes me connect app, business owners can track all sorts of information related to the vehicle, such as maintenance and breakdown management, as well as remote functions, such as locking or unlocking the van.
 
Plenty Of Safety Features To Keep You Safe
Moving on to the safety features, the Sprinter and eSprinter boast updated and new tech. The standard active brake assist now has an intersection function and can alert the driver of oncoming or crossing vehicles at speeds up to 37 mph. It can also notify the driver of dangerous overtaking maneuvers (up to 43 mph) and take control of the steering (up to 25 mph) if it detects an imminent crash. Aside from this, the newly introduced Sideguard Assist keeps the driver aware of the vehicle’s surroundings, sort of like an advanced active blind spot monitor. As an option, customers can also opt for the Moving-off Information Assist, which helps the Sprinter/eSprinter avoid collisions with other vehicles when accelerating away from an intersection. The system detects other motorists 12 feet in front and 19.6 inches next to the van and is functional up to 6 mph. Lastly, the lane-keep assist function has been improved with a new front camera.
 
Pricing And Availability
Order books for the 2025 Sprinter and eSprinter are now open. The former has a starting price of $50,900, while the latter will set buyers back $61,250. Mercedes says both will reach showrooms in the second half of the year. It will be interesting to see how the new eSprinter stacks up to rivals like the enhanced Ford E-Transit, which has a lower starting price than its German competitor.
