On March 10, 2026, Mercedes will unveil the new Mercedes VLE in Stuttgart. It will be the first model based on the new VAN.EA dedicated electric architecture, which will replace the Mercedes V-Class and EQV and will be offered exclusively with electric propulsion.

Mercedes has revised its entire range of platforms for future electric models, which will be based on four architectures:
– MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture), developed as Electric First but also able to accommodate conventional powertrains, for the new compact range: CLA, CLA Shooting Brake, GLA, and GLB
– MB.EA, a purely electric platform for the new Mercedes GLC EQ, unveiled at the Munich motor show in the autumn of 2025, which will also underpin the future Mercedes C-Class EQ and Mercedes E-Class EQ, the latter replacing the EQE in 2027
– AMG.EA, a purely electric platform for AMG performance models, with the first model being a GT based on the Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept, followed by an SUV on the same platform
– VAN.EA, for medium- and large-sized passenger and cargo vans

The only current electric platform that will remain in production is EVA II, used for the EQS. It will be upgraded with 800-volt technology and will underpin the future Mercedes S-Class EQ. Initially, it was supposed to be replaced by MB.EA Large, but Mercedes appears to have abandoned this plan due to weak EQS sales.

Returning to the VAN.EA platform intended for the Mercedes VLE: the VLE designation indicates a van positioned in the E-Class segment, aimed at customers looking for a spacious family vehicle as well as taxi companies and shuttle services.

The Mercedes VLE is built on the dedicated VAN.EA electric platform with 800-volt technology, and several versions are planned: a classic minivan with up to eight seats, a camper van, and a version for VIP shuttle services.

Key features of the new platform include all-wheel steering for a small turning circle, internet connectivity, over-the-air updates, and driver-assistance systems supporting up to Level 3 autonomous driving.

An optional retractable 65-inch cinema screen will also be offered, similar to the one shown on the Mercedes Vision V concept. The multimedia system will be based on the new in-house developed MB.OS software and Google services.

With a battery of around 116 kWh, the Mercedes VLE will offer a WLTP range of up to 480 km and will support DC fast charging at up to 320 kW.

The Mercedes VLE will also be available in a luxurious version called VLS, offering a level of luxury comparable to the S-Class.
