If you have a German V12 itch that badly needs scratching, then this beautiful 1993 Mercedes-Benz Renntech SL74 is definitely worth your time.

Renntech has been established as one of the most respectable Mercedes tuners in the business and their SL74 package turned the R129 SL 600 into one of the most impressive tuner cars in the 1990s.

Renntech’s modifications remained true to the old Mercedes nomenclature standards, which means that the size of the 6.0-liter V12 was enlarged to a whopping 7.4 liters. In addition, the engine was upgraded with new titanium connecting rods, intake valves, a Moldex crankshaft, as well as ported and polished cylinder heads, and a new exhaust system, among others. As a result, the engine’s output was rated at no less than 575 HP and 584 lb-ft of torque when new.

The cost of Renntech’s ‘SL74’ package for the R129 SL600 was $78,180 back in 1996, or around $130k in today’s money if you factor in the inflation.

The monstrous engine is paired to an upgraded four-speed automatic transmission while the suspension features lower springs and fatter sway bars. There’s also a custom limited-slip differential, while a set of 18-inch OZ Racing wheels with polished lips hide an uprated braking system with 14-inch slotted rotors and Alcon calipers.

The car you see pictured is currently listed on Bring A Trailer, showing just over 52,000 miles on the clocks, and comes with both a body-colored removable hardtop and the standard soft top. Things like the discreet Renntech badging, the wheels, and a ventilated hood are the only details that set apart this SL74 from an SL 600, making it a true sleeper.

The cabin features the classic Mercedes wood accents on the dash, center console, and steering wheel while the leather seats are power-adjustable.

While it’s not a real AMG SL73, the Renntech SL74 manages to offer even more power for less money and that is a bargain in our books.
