Ultra-potent 2026 Mercedes-AMG E53 wagon will give American enthusiasts a very compelling option in a market devoid of them.
While crossovers and SUVs have become the proverbial apple of American car shoppers’ eyes in recent years, enthusiasts have long gravitated toward wagons, which offer the same sort of utility without compromising performance in many ways. Unfortunately, most automakers have nixed wagons from their lineups altogether regardless, leaving American shoppers lacking in terms of options. However, we’re now receiving a bit of very welcome news – the 2026 Mercedes-AMG E53 wagon will in fact be sold in the U.S., and it’s one heck of an enticing package, to boot.
The 2026 Mercedes-AMG E53 wagon is, in many ways, a lot like the all-new 2025 E53 sedan – in fact, it shares that models’ potent powertrain. That setup consists of a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six gas engine mated to a single electric motor, generating a combined 577 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque – or, with the optional Race Start mode, 604 ponies.
That solid amount of power flows to all four wheels, propelling the wagon from 0-60 mph in a mere 3.8 seconds, which is good enough to take down plenty of sports cars that are far less practical.
The 400-volt, 21-kWh battery provides a solid 42 miles of all-electric driving range in the E53 sedan, though it’s unclear if that will also be the case in the wagon variant.
That battery does figure to take away a smidge of rear cargo space, though we imagine that most will be happy to make the tradeoff for all that extra grunt. Underneath, the 2026 Mercedes-AMG E53 wagon also comes standard with goodies such as adaptive dampers and rear-wheel steering, which are nice touches.
To unlock the aforementioned 604 horsepower, buyers will have to spec their wagons with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package, which also raises its top speed from 155 miles-per-hour to 174 mph.
The package adds additional goodies such as active engine mounts, an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, composite AMG brakes with 15.4-inch front discs, and a Nappa leather/microfiber covered AMG Performance steering wheel.
Customers can choose from a dozen paint colors and an optional carbon fiber package for the 2026 Mercedes-AMG E53 wagon, along with a couple of wheel choices in addition to the standard 20-inch units. The 17-speaker Burmester surround sound system is standard, but customers can also opt for several different upholstery options, plus the “Superscreen,” which adds a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger.
The Edition 1 package is also available, which costs $25k more on the sedan, and it adds Manufaktur Alpine Grey paint with AMG graphics, 21-inch wheels, and other unique touches.
For now, pricing hasn’t been released for the 2026 Mercedes-AMG E53 wagon, though the sedan starts out at just under $90k, so we can expect it to retail for a bit more. Regardless, we don’t doubt that plenty of performance wagon lovers will be more than ready to plunk down their hard-earned money and bring one home.
