Mercedes-AMG has expanded the Edition R offering in the Land Down Under with the new GLE 53 SUV and GLE 53 Coupe, which pack more gear and sport some interesting features.
Following hot on the heels of the Edition R versions of the C 43, GLC 43, and other compact models, the new additions to the range come with 22-inch cross-spoke forged wheels from AMG’s portfolio, with a high-sheen rim flange and a matte black look. The alloys are backed up by red brake calipers with black AMG branding and a high-performance composite braking system.
Optionally, the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 SUV and GLE 53 Coupe Edition R sporty executive crossovers can be ordered with different paint finishes from Manufaktur’s portfolio. The models also have brushed aluminum trim, red seatbelts, and a few other bits and bobs. The GLE 53 Edition R sports an AMG Performance steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather/Microcut microfiber and AMG buttons, and Artico leather upholstery with red stitching. The GLE 53 Edition R Coupe comes with black AMG Nappa leather.
The three-pointed star brand’s official local website reveals that the regular GLE 53 also comes with standard AMG Night Package, transparent hood technology, a panoramic sliding sunroof, augmented reality features, AMG steering wheel buttons, and AMG Performance Exhaust System, Advanced Plus Package with Digital Extras, rear privacy windows, plenty of safety gizmos, and many others.
Nothing has changed in the powertrain department, where the two models pack the same inline-six engine with electrified technology. The output is officially rated at 320 kilowatts (435 ps/429 hp), and the thrust stands at 560 Nm (413 lb-ft). The spec sheet reveals that the 0-100 kph (mph) is dealt with in a little over five seconds in both vehicles, more than a second slower than the range-topping GLE 63s, and they have a top speed electronically capped at 155 mph (250 kph).
What about the pricing, you ask? Well, for the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Edition R SUV, interested parties are looking at a minimum of AU$184,100 (equal to US$122,795), and the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Edition R Coupe is available from AU$188,100 (US$125,465). Keep in mind that these are the manufacturer’s recommended local list prices (MRLP), so they include GST and any LCT applicable, yet exclude the on-road costs, including the registration fees, CTP, stamp duty, etc.
In the United States of America, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 family is in the 2026 model year. Pricing for the regular GLE 53 4Matic+ SUV starts at US$90,000 (equaling AU$134,905), and the Coupe variant, which targets customers favoring style over practice, kicks off at US$92,150 (AU$138,125). The top-of-the-line AMG GLE 63 and AMG GLE 63 Coupe have MSRPs of US$131,800 (AU$197,560) and US$133,150 (AU$199,585), respectively.
