2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 4 Platform Update Releases

The new GT4 platform update ensures that the current cars will remain eligible for competition until 2029.
 

The Mercedes-AMG GT4 race car is based off the Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupe production sports car. The GT4 race car begin its competition career back in 2018. The GT R Coupe went out of production in 2021, however, Mercedes-AMG is not about to give up on racing in GT4. According to a report by Sporstcar 365, Mercedes-AMG has rolled out a number of updates to its GT4 platform, which will extend the homologation of the car until 2029. So, we have at least four more years to watch and listen to these machines thunder around the track.
 
The new homologation was obtained by Mercedes-AMG on Wednesday from the SRO Motorsports Group and the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium (RACB). Reportedly Mercedes-AMG has opted for ‘minimal’ changes to the current car. That car currently competes in various championships around the world including the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, Pirelli GT4 America and GT4 European Series.
 
GT4 Homologation Changes
The AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine has been tweaked to improve drivability. There are new regulations that stipulate the mandatory use of natural fiber reinforced plastic (NFK) components on the front splitter and rear wing. The GT4 car will be updated accordingly. New FIA-compliant rain lights will be installed and the shock absorbers on the rear axle have also been revised.
 

A re-homologation kit which will include all of the revisions will be available to customers for $9,115. A small price to pay to be able to race essentially the same car for another four years.
 
Mercedes-AMG GT4 Overview
The GT4 race car is closely aligned with the production car. Changes for race duty include multi-adjustable ABS, a sequential 6-gear racing transmission with externally adjustable differential and ultra-light carbon fiber reinforced polymer body parts.
 
Of course, there are other changes required to make these legal race cars, but they as are close to production cars as possible.
 

Mercedes-AMG GT3 Milestone
In addition to the homologation changes for the GT4 race car Mercedes-AMG celebrates a milestone with their GT3 race car. It was announced that GetSpeed Performance is about to take delivery of the 300th example of its currently active GT3 platform. The Mercedes-AMG GT3 debuted back in 2016 and received an EVO update in 2020. The car has found remarkable success. It has scored victories in many major events including CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, Nürburgring 24, Rolex 24 at Daytona, Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Motul Petit Le Mans and Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour.
 
But all good things must come to an end. The current GT3 car will be replaced by a new car in the Mercedes-AMG portfolio. The new car is expected to begin testing this summer. The currently unnamed car should be ready for customers in 2027.
