Even though it does not rule over the large premium sedan segment, the Mercedes S-Class has always been considered one of the best models in its class. We cannot argue with that logic, and if we were to pick one to live with on a constant basis, it would be the AMG S 63 E Performance.
 
This Affalterbach-developed vehicle is a super sedan with an electric infusion. Under the hood, it features the brand’s ubiquitous V8 motor. The 4.0L bi-turbo mill is assisted by an electric unit mounted at the rear, which contributes to the car’s total output and torque.
 

But how much does it unleash upon right throttle abuse? That would be 1,055 pound-foot (1,430 Nm) of torque and 791 horsepower (802 ps/590 kW). The three-pointed star’s official spec sheet reveals a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 kph), upgradable to 180 mph (290 kph) as an option, and 0-60 mph (0-97 kph) in just 3.2 seconds.
 
As a result, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is faster than some iconic supercars in straight-line acceleration, like the Ferrari Enzo, and some half a second slower than the Lamborghini Temerario, which replaced the Huracan, thus becoming the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based brand’s new ‘baby’ supercar that sits below the Revuelto (Aventador’s successor).
 
This beastly sedan also features high-performance brakes, a 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system, speed-sensitive power steering, and a nine-speed automatic transmission that deploys the aforementioned thrust to both axles. On top of that, it features sportier bumpers at the front and rear, quad exhaust tips, the AMG-typical Panamericana grille, and retains its premium features on the inside, just like any other modern-day S-Class out there.
 

Mercedes-AMG’s S 63 E Performance has dipped its toes into the tuning game, too. Various companies have launched all sorts of upgrades for this model, including Mansory, which had its way with it at the beginning of the year (2024). That model came with the tuner’s usual visual aero that doesn’t do justice to this awesome machine and left its mark on other components, including the wheels. In fact, that alloy set was one of the only positive aspects of the aftermarket makeover.
 
Speaking of wheels, the pictured example comes with a set of Vossens. They’re called the Gen-04 (3-piece) and start at $2,400 each in the smallest diameter offered (18 inches), going up to $12,000 for a full set in 24 inches. Vossen offers 48 paint finishes for these forged wheels, which sport a simple multi-spoke design with visible rivets and wide lips. The Gen-04 (3-piece) may not be our first choice for the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance, but they’re certainly not bad at all, as they make the super sedan appear a bit sportier.
