Has anyone seen Mercedes’ new EQ series, which runs in parallel with the normal range but with an all-electric powertrain? It all started back in 2016 with the Generation EQ concept vehicles, and it’s been on a downward trend ever since – at least from the design standpoint.
The new zero-emissions family has a big range of models almost a decade later – starting with the 2019 Mercedes EQC compact crossover SUV, followed by the big EQV minivan in 2020, the little EQA and EQB crossovers in 2021, plus the EQS and EQS SUV along with the EQE and EQE SUV pairs a little later, as well as the EQT van. If you’re struggling to remember all of them, you’re not alone.
It’s not because of the vastness of the model range, though. Instead, it’s all due to the styling – which is as bland as it gets. Some might even call it dreadful if you ask around. The problem with Mercedes is that even its ICE-powered traditional models suffer these days from design alienation. The company is trying to correct that with the latest introductions, such as the latest E-Class, which now has three-pointed star LEDs, among others.
They are also moving toward a more normal styling in the EQ series – at least judging by the new G 580 with EQ Technology, the all-electric version of the G-Class, which is almost the same as its ICE-powered counterpart. But is that enough when Audi brings out a flurry of all-new and refreshed models while BMW stands out in every crowd (including the wrong ones) with its quirky styling?
Not at all, at least according to the rumor mill and the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. As such, meet Giorgi Tedoradze, the Georgia-based industrial designer better known as tedoradze.giorgi on social media, who has a quick CGI idea regarding the fate of Mercedes-Benz’s design language.
More precisely, just like he did with BMW, this pixel master proposes an alternative styling beginning with the first design project called Mercedes-Benz ‘F-Class.’ As far as we can tell, since the CGI expert has only released one POV, the classic front-three-quarters stance, this is a CLS-type four-door coupe vehicle that comes with cleaner styling than anything seen in the real world by the OEM designers.
At the front, the vertically-slotted AMG grille is present and accounted for – but with larger dimensions. It doesn’t seem odd, though, because the near-horizontal LED clusters and the full-width chrome bar set across the front bumper keep it balanced. There are also turbine-style concave alloy wheels that look to be at least 24s up front and 26s at the rear, plus a rakish profile with small glass surfaces.
We don’t see the back just yet, though, which is probably going to appear in a fresh post later this week – as per tradition. So, what do you think about this CGI Mercedes-Benz ‘F-Class’ point?
