2022 Mercedes-AMG S 63 e Looks Mean As Hell

Mercedes is putting the final touches on the upcoming AMG versions of the S-Class, with our spies spotting another S63e test car with limited camouflage.

The German carmaker is planning to introduce two AMG variants of the S-Class in the form of the new S63e and S73e plug-in hybrids; both models will employ a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine but the S73e model will have a more powerful electric motor for a combined output of over 800 HP. That’s the same powertrain AMG is going to use in the also upcoming GT 73e.

The S63e, believed to be seen here, will have to make do with around 700 HP. AMG will not offer a V12 option to buyers this time around, leaving that honor to Maybach and the S680 only.

One thing that betrays the plug-in hybrid nature of the new Mercedes-AMG S63e is the dual filler caps, one for fuel and the other for charging.

The test car has just the front and rear ends covered in the traditional swirly wrap, giving us a clear indication of what the final production version will look like; the front end is dominated by the Panamericana grille and a very aggressive-looking bumper while the rear end gets the classic AMG treatment, with quad exhaust pipes surrounded by a new bumper design and a diffuser prominently featured between them.

Bigger wheels make room for bigger brakes while the advanced tech features of the latest S-Class generation will be tuned accordingly to serve the purposes of AMG’s flagship sedan. Things like the active all-wheel steering and the air suspension will be revised and retuned for sharper driving dynamics and more grip, should you wish to take your new luxury sedan to a track.

The new 2022 Mercedes-AMG S63e is expected to be revealed towards the end of the year.
