New Mercedes-AMG S 63 Is It Better Than The Current One?

So far, we have only seen the regular S-Class version of the brand’s facelifted flagship sedan family, for the most part, but make no mistake, as Mercedes will apply similar visual updates to the Maybach models and the performance-oriented AMG.
 

Speaking of the latter, it recently became the subject of a rendering by @kelsonik on Instagram, who chose a very different approach for this car. You see, instead of sticking to the realistic side of things by analyzing the regular S-Class prototypes and peeling their skin off using photo editing tools, the pixel master chose the Vision Iconic Concept route, hence the spectacular (this writer thinks) result.
 
One does not need to search for images of the current Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance to spot the differences between this model and the rendered one, as the quoted artist shared them side by side from two angles. The CGI model features a very imposing front grille that lacks the Panamericana treatment, as it looks quite classic, a pair of teardrop-shaped headlights, a thin air intake in the middle of the bumper, and the usual vents to the sides.
 

The car’s profile has also been enhanced with new lines running across the doors, tweaked handles, and new side skirts. We also have to mention the slightly shorter wide windows, which, combined with the roofline that is only a tiny bit arched toward the rear, remind us of the defunct CLS, albeit on a larger scale. The back end is a lot sleeker with the extremely wide taillights, larger deck, a pair of vents to the sides of the new bumper, relocated license plate holder, sporty diffuser, and range-topping AMG typical tailpipes.
 
Besides the red example, which is instantly visible, the quoted artist also imagined the hypothetical upcoming Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance in gray. Both feature the same wheels, which are significantly larger than the standard ones, and we like the two of them equally, though if we were to choose, we’d probably pick the gray one, as red does not really suit the nature of a large sedan, even a sporty one like this.
 

Power-wise, the current Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance features an electrified 4.0L bi-turbo V8 that spits out an impressive 1,055 pound-feet (1,430 Nm) of torque and 791 horsepower (590 kW/802 ps). Mercedes’ official website reveals that this model is significantly faster than, say, the smaller BMW M5, taking a mere 3.0 seconds to reach the 60 mph (97 kph) mark. As for the pricing, you are looking at a minimum of $189,800 for the 2026 model year, which is the MSRP in our market.
 
It is yet unknown when the facelifted Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is due, but it might come out for the 2028 model year, given that the normal Benz models are expected for the 2028 MY.
