Do you know what the riskiest part of shrinking the G-Wagen is? Making it look like a Suzuki Jimny that tries to impersonate the real Mercedes G-Class, and nobody wants this.

Our latest encounter with a CGI take on the upcoming model does not really do justice to the real G-Wagen. It is like @mercedes_fans.de, which is where we spotted these renderings, hasn’t heard about the scooped model. Sure, we can appreciate the effort of imagining a small version of the Mercedes G-Class and trying to set it apart by messing around with its exterior design, yet the result is far from reality.
The overall proportions are way off, and this applies to the entire thing, from one bumper to the other. The front windscreen won’t be this wide, the side windows will have a different size and shape, nothing indicates that the doors will be this clean, and we are not entirely convinced about those fat wheel arches. The front and rear ends will likely look way different from what they do here, and the same goes for the hood, tailgate, and pretty much everything else.
Do those wheels look familiar? That’s because they were inspired by Kolesa’s renderings, which are the most accurate ones so far. In fact, the entire thing appears to have been inspired by those CGIs, which happen to be on the realistic side of things, to some extent, anyway. However, it is like the person behind these digital illustrations decided to go in a different direction, as everything looks weird and way off, as we already told you.

It may seem like we know a lot about the upcoming Mercedes Baby G, but the truth is that we don’t. We do not even know what its name will be, yet in plain three-pointed star brand fashion, it should start with a ‘G.’ After all, this applies to its entire high-riding vehicle family, from the GLA all the way up to the GLS. And if it were us, we’d call it the GM, with M standing for Minus, because this upcoming model will be a smaller and less exciting version of the real G-Class.
The original plan was for Mercedes to launch the so-called Baby G with battery-electric firepower solely. However, in the wake of the poor EV sales, it appears that the automaker is now considering giving it at least one ICE powertrain, which could be a 2.0-liter four-banger, maybe with some sort of electric assistance. That’s what the rumor mill claims, anyway, as Mercedes hasn’t announced anything about it.
The model is expected to premiere in 2027, and we wouldn’t be surprised if it started in the region of $100,000, which would make it more than $50K more affordable than the current G 550.
