Ever wonder what your favorite football player drives? If it’s Patrick Mahomes, you know he’s rolling in the all-white Rolls-Royce Cullinan. OBJ? More of a Lamborghini Urus type of guy. Oh, and Myles Garrett once had a Porsche 911 Turbo S before he crashed it one day after practice. But what about other types of “football” players? And by that, I mean soccer.
Soccer players aren’t the types to take a backseat to somebody when it comes to expensive rides. And no, you don’t have to be Cristiano Ronaldo or Zlatan Ibrahimovic to afford some of the nicest cars in the world – if you play in one of Europe’s top leagues, you’re making millions of dollars per year, to say the least.
Take Kai Havertz for example. He’s an attacking midfielder who plays for Arsenal FC in the Premier League, and his market value, according to Transfermarkt, is roughly 70 million euros, or $75 million. He reportedly makes close to $15 million per year, so it’s no wonder that his driveway looks like something out of an AMG factory.
The 24-year-old German player allowed somebody from Mercedes-AMG to pay him a visit, resulting in a quick and refreshing interview regarding his AMG GT 63 S – which he called “matte black”, but we suspect it’s actually the Manufaktur Graphite Grey Magno colorway. Anyway, it’s a nice car and it looks even nicer when parked next to his AMG-spec G-Wagen and what looks like a Mercedes EQS SUV just off-camera.
Of course, the AMG GT is the main attraction, and since this is a 63 S variant, we can also tell you that it’s powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, good for 630 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. Everything gets sent to all four wheels via the carmaker’s AMG Speedshift 9-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system.
In a straight line, flooring the throttle will get you to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, before maxing you out at 195 mph. Hopefully Havertz knows to stay away from pushing the limits of his car when it comes to driving on public roads.
The Arsenal star scored a total of 14 goals this past season for his club, 13 in the Premier League and one in the Champions League. That’s 14 goals in 51 appearances. Not great, not terrible. In total, he has 120 goals scored in 405 professional appearances – 32 of them scored in the Premier League and 36 in the German Bundesliga. Havertz has played for both Arsenal and Chelsea and used to be at Bayer Leverkusen before making the switch to the EPL.
As for his current team, they tragically missed out on winning the title this past season (by 2 points), coming in second place behind Manchester City. Better luck next year.
