Mercedes-AMG GT 63 – Interior, Exterior and Drive

Upgraded tech on the AMG GT is truly a wonderful sight to behold, and to drive.

Maybe not intended to replace the iconic SLS Gullwing, the AMG GT has still had some pretty enormous shoes to fill. We feel it has filled them rather well, being one of the brands most successful premium sports cars. And now, it has been re-designed for 2024. Youtube channel RoCars has had an up-close look. There’s a lot that has changed under the new skin, both mechanically and in the technology department as well.

Tech is all new in this AMG GT, which comes in GT55 and GT63 versions, as noted by Car and Driver. COMAND’s biggest change comes in the form of what looks like a giant tablet as a central control unit. In here you’ll find IWC gauges for your lap times, and a neat 360 degree camera that can be viewed from any angle. A new heads-up-display mirrors the instrument screen, both with an interesting inside-to-outside style rev counter.

More importantly perhaps is the mechanical parts. The rear trans axle is gone, ditched in favor of a 9 speed clutch pack automatic just behind the engine. That move was necessary to fit all-wheel drive, and has led to other significant changes. The engine sits further forward, and higher up. That means some ultimate speed is sacrificed, but only to some extent. All wheel drive makes off-the-line performance still properly rapid.

Because of all of this, the car is larger. Despite looking similar to its predecessor, the new AMG GT is over half a foot longer. But it is also more aerodynamic, too. Additional aerodynamic packages will be available, as shown on this red car in the video below with the red wing and front aero devices.

More importantly though, the AMG GT has now shifted itself away from the sports car it once was, and is now aimed toward GT territory. It’s not entirely a bad thing, because that’s what it is named, after all. And we’re sure that if an AMG GT Black series were to happen for this C192 chassis. And of course, the aftermarket will get hold of it, and throw their tunes and turbos at it without batting an eye.
