It’s hard to dislike the turbo-diesel Mercedes. This is especially true when it is a turbo-diesel powerplant in a wagon chassis. There’s just something insanely lovable about this combination that draws us all in. Unfortunately, however, super nice examples do not come into play very often. So, if you’re at all interested in a chance to own a gorgeous classic that checks both the turbo-diesel and wagon boxes, now is your chance!

This remarkable time capsule of a 1983 Mercedes 300TD station wagon is currently listed for sale on the automotive auction website Cars and Bids. At the time of writing, the bid sits at an impressive $10,300. It’s only going up from there! However, if you’ve got the capital to spare, this might be the nicest 300TD you’ll ever have a chance to buy. So don’t let it go to waste!

Meticulously Restored Inside and Out
According to the listing, this 300TD underwent a relatively recent ground-up restoration. Given the condition in the photos, it doesn’t look like that’s any sort of an exaggeration. However, there is one minor drawback that comes on the heels of this restoration. The individual restoring the vehicle reset the odometer at the completion of the engine rebuild. So, the odometer reads just over 500 miles, and the actual mileage of the chassis is not known. Again, though, considering the photos show top, bottom, inside, and outside look nearly perfect, we doubt this vehicle will be giving anyone any trouble any time soon.

Even under the hood, everything looks like it left the factory yesterday. It has new bushings, arms, shocks, brake lines, rotors, pads, and just about everything else. This is truly a remarkable and complete restoration.

Remarkable Attention to Detail
Every bit of chrome and brass is polished to perfection, all the black components are still black, and there appear to be no rogue specs of oil anywhere under the hood. If you’re familiar with old turbo-diesel Mercedes vehicles, you’ll know that’s impressive in its own right!

Assuming the rebuild is to original specs, this OM617 five-cylinder 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine is good for 120 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. Sure, it’s no speed demon. However, it will undoubtedly get you where you need to be. It’ll likely pull some impressive fuel economy numbers on the way, too. Finally, your driving experience will be smooth and comfy as the engine transfers power to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission.

From tip to tail, this 300TD is likely the nicest one you’ll ever come across. If this is on your must-own list, you’d better keep an eye on the bids and plan to be around for the end of the auction.

Though it’s a good bit out of the price range of many of us, we can certainly take the time to appreciate this gorgeous classic and all the work that went into it. Hopefully, the next owner starts pouring the miles on and it sees plenty of time on the road.
