Don’t fancy the C-Class that much, and you think that the CLA is prettier? Well, Mercedes has you covered, as it has just unveiled a long wheelbase version of the third-generation premium subcompact model.
Presented at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show in China, it is solely available in the People’s Republic, where car buyers appreciate the extra legroom for those sitting at the back. The model is 4,763 mm (187.5 inches) long and has 2,865 mm (112.8 inches) between the axles.
Thus, the wheelbase has increased by 75 mm (3 in) and the car is 40 mm (1.6 in) longer. Moreover, it is also slightly longer than the C-Class and has an identical wheelbase length.
Mercedes’ new 2025 CLA L also benefits from additional enhancements to improve comfort for those sitting at the back. According to the company, this car has a unique rear seat with an extended cushion for extra leg support.
Softer rear bolsters are also said to be on deck. It appears that this model features a pair of 14-inch screens, one for the infotainment system and the other to keep the front passenger entertained, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, albeit with a different version of the brand’s operating system.
Want to talk about the powertrain? Well, the three-pointed star brand states that the long-wheelbase version of the new-gen CLA is offered with zero emissions and features a rear-mounted electric motor. It also comes with a two-speed transmission and benefits from the 800-volt architecture.
The model enjoys 268 brake horsepower, which comes out to 272 metric horses and 200 kilowatts. Mercedes claims it has a total autonomy of 538 miles (866 kilometers) on the CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle), which represents an energy consumption of 10.9 kWh/62 miles (100 km). The European version achieves 493 miles (792 km) on the WLTP cycle.
One of the standout features of the 2025 Mercedes-Benz CLA L is the 800-volt system, which allows the battery pack to be charged faster, while also improving the system efficiency. The MMA (Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture) platform on which the new CLA builds offers two battery options, a 58 kWh and an 85 kWh unit.
Are you curious whether this car has a frunk, given its all-electric nature? Well, it doesn’t, and the reason is simple: the three-pointed star brand also plans to launch a gasoline-powered version with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance. As a result, if customers don’t fancy the electric nature of this model, then all they have to do is wait for Mercedes-Benz to introduce the gasoline-fed version.
More details about the all-new long wheelbase CLA for the People’s Republic will be released in due course, including pricing. By the way, as mentioned above, it is limited to China, so don’t look for it in the West.
