As we have already announced, Mercedes will replace the C-Class and E-Class coupes/cabriolets with a single model to be called the Mercedes CLE, available as both a coupe and a cabriolet. The German auto motor und sport magazine caught the Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 4Matic top cabrio version in winter tests in Sweden.

This is not the first time in Mercedes history that a coupe and a convertible have been offered between classes. This has been the case in the past with the Mercedes CLK.

Due to the huge investments in the electric model area, Mercedes decided to restrict its conventional range. Therefore, there will be no more C-Class Coupe/Cabrio and E-Class Coupe/Cabrio but only one model called Mercedes CLE. It will be available as a coupe and a cabrio and will have a Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 4Matic performance version in both versions.

The Mercedes CLE will not be able to replace the Mercedes S-Class Cabrio, which has gone out of production and will have no successor. In that segment, Mercedes now offers the Mercedes-AMG SL which has switched from a 2-seater to a 2+2 seater configuration.

Colleagues from the german auto motor und sport magazine caught the upcoming top model in AMG clothing in winter tests in Sweden. The Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 4Matic borrows technology from the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 which combines the 2-litre turbo engine (M139) from the AMG A 45 equipped with mild hybrid system on 48V with a 150 kW electric motor. Auto motor und sport announces for the first time that the AMG CLE 63 will develop 558 HP in the base version and 653 HP in the S version. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a new 9-speed automatic gearbox. The electric range will be around 60 km. In addition to the AMG CLE 63, the AMG CLE 43 will also be available.

Compared to the normal CLE version, the Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 has a slightly lower ground clearance and flared wheel arches. The larger perforated brake discs of the sports brake system are visible behind the alloy wheels. The front part is characterized by the Panamericana grille and a spoiler with more generous air intakes. At the rear, the two pairs of square exhaust pipes, typical AMG, are visible.
