Mercedes-Benz had a big Shanghai Auto Show. In addition to the new EQB electric crossover, Mercedes has lifted the wraps off a more lavish variant of the new C-Class Sedan with a longer wheelbase, offering even more legroom for rear passengers. Like other long-wheelbase versions of luxury BMW and Audi sedans, the Mercedes C-Class will only be sold in China, where there is a high demand for stretched sedans.

Mercedes hasn’t revealed the dimensions, but local media claims the C-Class L is 192.2 inches long, 71.7 inches wide, and 57.5 inches tall, with a 116.3-inch wheelbase.

This makes the wheelbase 3.5 inches longer than the standard C-Class and 1.3 inches longer than the old extended-wheelbase model. Mercedes is also selling the C-Class L with a retro grille featuring the brand’s iconic hood ornament. Alternatively, it can be fitted with the same fascia as the contemporary C-Class.

As well as offering more legroom, the rear cabin features luxury head restraints, a larger armrest with a more spacious stowage compartment, USB ports, and cupholders. Thanks to improved noise insulation, the cabin is even quieter than the standard C-Class, and the suspension has been modified to give passengers a smoother, more comfortable ride.

The 11.9-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster from the regular C-Class Sedan will also carry over. In China, the 2021 C-Class L will be available in two trim levels: the C200 L and C260 L. Powering the C200 L is a 1.5-liter engine producing 168 hp, while the C260 L will be available with either a 1.5-liter mild-hybrid making 201 hp or a 2.0-liter engine also producing 201 hp.

These units are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, while a 4Matic all-wheel-drive system is reserved for higher trims. In addition to the EQB and C-Class L, the new 2022 Mercedes CLS also made its world debut at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show.
