Mercedes-Benz’s performance division, AMG recently announced that it is currently developing a 2-liter 4-cylinder E Performance hybrid powertrain which will propel the upcoming high-performance version of the C-Class. With Mercedes focusing its efforts on the company’s electrification strategy, it was rumored that the tri-star brand’s CLS model will be discontinued in the North American market.

This means that the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 4MATIC (Which recently made its U.S. debut) will be the CLS nameplate’s only surviving model in the market. Interestingly enough, European markets will still get a new version of the CLS. Mercedes has announced that it will introduce an AMG version of the nameplate and the production of the upcoming model will be limited to just 300 units.

The ultra-exclusive AMG variant will only be available in two paint options- Cashmere White Mango and Selenite Green Mango shades. The performance version of the Euro-spec CLS will ride on 20-inch AMG alloys, and flaunt body stripes on the sides. The twin-spoke rims will sport a high-sheen rim flange. The limited-edition CLS AMG models will also get Merc’s Night Package and Night Package 2 as standard.

The company will also throw in the AMG Dynamic Plus package, which means that the upcoming model will get Red brake calipers, dark tinted windows, race driving mode, and a drift option. The interiors of the sporty CLS will get dual-tone leather upholstery which will be offset by carbon-fiber trim. The steering wheel will be wrapped in plush Napa leather, and occupants will be greeted by red contrasting stitching on all leather surfaces.

The steering wheel will also sport AMG branded buttons, and the same badging will be found on the exterior of the car. The company has also disclosed that it will not update the powertrain of the upcoming AMG CLS 53 model. The powerplant will continue to produce 429 HP of power and 384 lb-ft of peak torque. An integrated starter generator will be responsible for offering 21 HP of temporary boost, which will also offer 184 lb-ft of torque. The Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 will only take 4.5 seconds to hit the 62 MPH mark.
