Mercedes G-Class EMC Is A No-Frills Restomod That Looks Just Right

This is ‘The White Wolf’ and it is one of the most impressive Mercedes G-Class restomods we’ve seen in quite some time. It has been brought to life by Expedition Motor Company (EMC) and is a 1990 250GD model that hasn’t just benefitted from a selection of exterior upgrades but also has a refreshed interior and a renewed engine.

Mercedes originally built the 250GD for military use and EMC has spent roughly 2,100 hours transforming this example. Work started by stripping the G-Wagon down to its frame before it was media blasted and received new coats of anti-corrosive primer and powder coat. The truck was then disassembled, cleaned, and upgraded, including the original axles with new internals, while also fitting new fuel and brake lines, reengineering the brake calipers, and installing new front brake rotors and rear drums.

With these changes made, the company could turn its attention to the suspension, overhauling it with an in-house setup that is said to make it “ready for modern driving conditions.” The exterior panels were then reinstalled and bathed in white paint with a host of black accents, including the wheel arches, the front grille, the bulbar, and the wheels.

EMC could have done what many other restomod shops do and simply replaced the original engine with a new one but instead, it has decided to retain the 2.5-liter inline-five diesel and rebuilt it with new pistons, seals, timing belt, water pump, and various other components. The original five-speed manual transmission has also been disassembled, cleaned, and refreshed with new seals, a new clutch, and a new throw-out bearing.

The company’s upgrades are rounded off by new mushroom-colored vinyl throughout the interior.

“We’ve had several clients tell us that their EMC Wolf elicits a feeling of freedom and happiness unlike anything they’ve ever driven before,” EMC founder Alex Levin described. “Owning a G-Wagen like this is a rare asset that very few others have in their collection, and we take great pride in providing a driving experience that few other vehicles can emulate. We fully understand that the driving experience of an EMC Wolf is not for everyone, but for those chasing the authentically rugged experience of driving a go-anywhere, do-anything type of truck, we are able to provide that without question.”
